Just a clarification – the receiver I have is the 80s Beomaster 3000.  I thought since there was an earlier 70s model 3000 that mine would be the 3000-2, but it turns out that there is another receiver with that designation.

Mine looks similar to the Beocord 45000 in style, but has brushed aluminum instead of chromed.  I like the look and function of the 3000, versus the later 3300 that is for sale locally.  The 3300 has a dedicated CD port, but I don’t love the greyed out look, vs. the shiny black and brushed aluminum look of the 3000.  I would prefer the 4500 to the 3300, but I haven’t see one fs.  I love the style of the 8000 series with the rosewood surrounds, brushed aluminum and black glass and red lighting.  It would look great next to the BeoCord 8004, but most of the ones I see for sale here are either very expensive or likely junk.  And the 8000 series was pre-CD apparently, though the Beocord 8004 has HX Pro which as I recall didn’t come into the market until the mid to late 80s, when CDs were fairly common, particularly in the hi-end of the audio market.

Component audio equipment is definitely a 70s-80s thing that I miss.

    Ah!

Thanks for the help.  My old eyes didn’t see that two were screws and I am not sure I would have drawn that conclusion even if I had seen them.  With some readers and an eyeglass screwdriver, I was able to remove the pins, plug the CD into the tape main port and play a CD.  I don’t get datalink auto controls, but at least everything works.  Which is mostly fine since I don’t have a Beogram turntable either.

Since I only have one tape port, though, I am starting to think I will want to upgrade to a later model so that I can get datalink, remote features, etc.  Maybe.   Plus have a dedicated CD port and be able to use the tape port for the Beocord 8004 – if I can ever get it working correctly.

I got into the B&O world by accident.  I had gotten rid of my hi-fi equipment years ago because it was old and not working well and I never used it.  Many years later the kids got me a turntable for Christmas (because I got rid of the equipment but kept the media – go figure).  They didn’t realize I needed a receiver and speakers to make it work.  A buddy had the Beomaster 3000-2 that a client had given him.  He passed it on to me and after I found a set of speakers (Pentas that needed refoaming and that were a bit rough but only $50) I was off to the races.

Still, if it weren’t for the BeoWorld forum, I think I would have just been frustrated enough to just sell it all.

If your crossovers are still working correctly, and all you need is a refoam, you can refoam them yourself.  There are companies both in the US and UK that sell refoaming kits.    I only needed to do the midranges on mine.   Once you get the covers off, the four speakers come out as a unit with their plastic surround by removing a few screws.  Take lots of photos before you remove the wiring so that you can make sure to get it back together correctly.  That or put labels on each wire.  Or both.  🙂

Refoaming is a bit of a PIA, but mostly it is just time consuming.  You need to remove all the foam and glue residue from the cone and the frame.  The kit I got had detailed instructions.

Since I’m not in the UK, I cannot really recommend someone to do it for you.  I imagine there is a reputable specialist in your area.  It will be far less expensive to ship the speakers without the cabinets, unless you can deliver to a local shop.  Good luck.
