That was it — reflowed the power joints on the decoder board (P1, P2, etc) and the power issues are resolved. In the meantime, I bought a more modern CD player and now have a benchmark for audio quality, and the Beogram definitely has sub-par audio quality, so I will continue recapping the board and see if that improves things.
