To me the BL5 can sound quite analogue with a rich and warm timbre, but still very authentic. They have lots of power and grunt from down below and grest mids. I also like the ALT-Tweater and find it to be silky and natural, not harsh at all.

But i would not call them neutral in the sense of lean and extremely transparent. If that’s the priority, i’d tend towards the BL50 …. very good speaker in terms of transparency and more neutral in my opinion.

Beolab 5 all the way … one of the best speakers for music listening.

I own a pair since 12 years and also had BL9 … no comparison for my liking, especially with a 55 swm room size.

BL28 are o.k for TV as long as you don’t play them loud. Personally i don’t like them for music too much, because they make all recordings sound the same … and that takes away the character and the finesse of recordings.

          Question, please:

My Setup is BL90 front left/right … Theatre … BL18 rear surrounds. I would like to modifiy the role(s) of the Theatre speakers/chassis or even turn them on/off in this setup. With my Avant 55 this was easy in the “Speaker Role” menu. But with the Theatre/LG G2 i can’t find that option … not in the LG-TV B&O software, nor in the B&O App.

          Any ideas?

          Best regards

          Tom

PS: Will there be a Technical Sound Guide for the Theatre, like there is for the BL90?

I connected a pair of BL17’s wireless to the Theatre without problems. Distance is 4.5m.

Problem with the BL90’s and Powerlink was, that it has to be set to low latency when operating the Room Sense process. After i did that, everything worked fine.

Quick pic from sunday after an exhausting build up session … still few visual quirks … need a longer mains cable and will have to re-do some of the cableing, but that should be easy.

Mission completed … everything works as promised now.

Had a longer phone call with the dealer today, after he got further info/instructions from B&O.

It is impressive what the Room Compensation via the Theatre did to the BL5’s … big benefit!

Theatre and BL5 up front and BL17 as rears … i like it a lot. Still have to place the BL5’s correctly … few centimeters here and there

Chill area for kids and friends ready now.

Has anybody here managed so far, to add a pair of older Beolab speakers via Powerlink to the Theater?

I added a +10yr old BL3s without issue. I imagine that you may have a cable/adapter cable/channel switch issue? Is a coax connected to the BL5 to another digital source? Remember, coax carries the signal, powerlink the volume signal? Disconnect if you do and retest?

No coax connected to the BL5’s … just Powerlink and quite the same issue while trying to connect the BL90’s via Powerlink.

Dealer says, it is a known problem supposed to be solved with SW update.

Then again you managed to get your BL3’s connected with Powerlink. Have to talk to B&O, i guess.

Tried to hook up my BL5’s to the Theater using Powerlink via the App. When i ran the process through the app, the Theatre detected connections at the Powerlink sockets, turned the BL5’s on and tried to send a testing sound to them, but there was no sound to be heard. After a while the BL5’s shut down again.

Similar experience when trying to run room sense with the BL90’s wired over Powerlink. In that case the App completely shut down.

Thanks for confirming. Yes I’m on auto update but v3.1.0 as far as I can ascertain is from April this year. I may be wrong on this but I think 3.1.0 = BL90 firmware v0.23.699 = BeoApp

                        This is what i get:

                        1. Latest SW version BL90

                        2. Previous SW version BL90

                        3. Latest SW version Beo-App

The version from 03/22 was v0.23.699

The latest version says v3.1.0 and was rolled out yesterday. If you have your settings on auto-update, you should have the same version.

                              … wireless has restricted/less resolution.

I might have missed something, but can’t you just connect the Beolap 90’s with powerlink to your Theatre? Or is it because you want optical or similar instead? ?

I can, but if i do so, the room compensation process via the BS Theatre can not be applied. I have to connect the BL90 in wireless mode (WISA) to have that feature working. It ‘s a software bug/failure.

And of course i wan’t to run the BL90’s wired via Powerlink to get the maximum sound quality out of them.

I wanted to use the BS Core for listening to music (only) through a dedicated source/transport. When i listened to BL90’s in the B&O store using a BV Harmony compared to using a budget Bluesound Vault2 directly feeding the BL90’s via coax the same day, it sounded better without the TV in the chain.

That’s why i wanted to try the Core. TV and movies is not my priority with the BL90’s … for me it is 90% stereo music, und 10% surround music playing live concerts etc.. What would you suggest in order to exploit the best sound possible out of the BL90’s in stereo and alternatively in a 5.1 or 5.2 setup? I would think, that the BL90’s should benefit from a decent source feeding them.

You should be able to setup a listening position on your Theatre with only the Beolab 90, then you have a B90 only stereo setup with the Theatre acting like a Mozart “BS Core” ?

Still would not solve my issue, as it is only possible connecting the BL90 as wireless to the Theatre, creating a room corrected speaker group. And in addition to that, i’d have to deactivate the Theatre speakers in the configuration menu of the speaker group, in order to get pure stereo mode.

To be more precise about my Powerlink issue with the Theatre:

When i have the BL90 connected and setup in the App as Powerlink, the room compensation measurement process for a 5.1 speakergroup using the microphone is stopped as soon as the signal hits the Powerlink connected BL90’s. It works though, when the BL90’s are set up and connected as wireless to the Theatre in the App. Then it is possible to get a room corrected speaker group preset and the process functions as expected.

Reading and understanding the Technical Sound Guide of BS Theatre and BL90 may help … will try to do that the next days.

Do you have a link for this? I know of the TV/surround guides but not for the Theatre specifically?

My fault … dealer sent me some documentary and i saw the BL90 technical sound guide and i also read BS Theatre in the file names … but no sound guide for the BS Theatre available so far.

I’ am going to test some streaming transports within next weeks … thinking about Antipodes K-Series and Grimm MU1, Innuos, Aurender and Nuprime Stream-9 … i could source the above locally and take them home for testing.

I did not buy the Core, just asked the dealer if he cluld lend it to me for a week … and he did.

My Theatre was delivered on Friday and i hooked it up with my Beolab 90’s cabled via Powerlink. I also borrowed a BS Core for testing and paired it to the BL90’s and the Theatre. Now the Theatre won’t recognize the PL-Connection automatically … looks like a software bug. If i want to watch TV i have to choose wireless mode for the BL90’s via Beo-App … switching to music via Core using the BL90’s only requires interaction with the app again, in order to switch back to Powerlink input again manually. Any ideas? Could be my faulty work, too of course. Cheers Tom

What is the benefit of adding the core? The Theatre already has Mozart so it can be a music system as well. I don’t have a BS Core so I don’t know if the old ASE platform still has some tricks up its sleeve ?

I wanted to use the BS Core for listening to music (only) through a dedicated source/transport. My system speakerwise in the main living room is BL90 front, BS Theatre (floorstand) center, BL18 rear.

In another room it is BL5 front, BS Theatre (wall mounted) center, BL17 rear … and maybe BL19 as rear sub, have to try it out.

Screens are LG Oled G2’s in 77″ and 65″.

Have to find more time to play arround with the gear.
