We don’t usually post about what we’re working on – mainly because there’s always so much coming through our repair centre that we barely get a minute!

But we thought we’d take a moment to share a few BeoGram 4002/4004 turntables we’ve recently refurbished using the official Bang & Olufsen kits.

This time around, we’ve gone a little further and introduced some coloured aluminium finishes – all properly anodised and refinished.

A bit of a change from the original silver – what do you think?
Do you have a favourite, or would you stick with the classic look?

I’m trying to keep an open mind…

What did you plan to pair the turntables with?

Are there matching restomod Beomasters in the works?

I’ve always expected B&O to be part of an “integrated system” rather than just a component. I’d love to see a concept picture of any of those turntables with a matching receiver, even if it was AI generated.

As far as liking it or not, all I can say right now that they do have a definite shock value. I’m looking forward to revisiting this thread later once the trauma has subsided. 😉

    No, they are standalone items.
The target audience is customers looking to match with existing items.

Perhaps I misunderstood your original post…

Are the turntables in the pictures planned products or samples for a service to provide bespoke turntables?

Either way, I’m curious about how you created the gold “rays” on the third turntable. Is is possible to provide a close-up picture?

They are currently our samples for demonstration.

We have been asked to produce them in bespoke colours by a few customers – black and gold seemed to be a popular request.

The black, blue and red aluminium surfaces were sent off for stripping, refinishing and anodising in the colour.
We have been getting replacement keypads laser cut locally, we took some of them and painted them along with the arms etc.

The gold ribs “rays” are solid gold bars 🤣 – only joking
The ribs were 3d printed in a gold colour, then sprayed to match the keypad and arms in a gold paint.

Very interesting.  The color versions would not be to my particular taste, but IMHO it illustrates the possibilities quite well.  Does the anodization process require you to remove the rubber parts, and/or the glued-on studs? I know that vinyl does not survive the acid cleaning  process intact, but I did wonder about rubber? You do your own stencil work for the arm cover? Overall, IMHO a nice service option to offer, even if it’s only to refinish to original colors.

That’s correct, we remove all the rubber/plastic parts before the anodising process. The studs dont need to be removed, they survive the process.

All the lettering is added after the process so we can have a consistent finish across all the aluminium.
We are processing more in the original colour vs the colour options.

I just stumbled across the Beosystem 4000 Masur Birch.    https://www.bang-olufsen.com/en/us/story/atelier-editions-beosystem-4000c-masur-birch

I have to say that I like all of the Multicare sample colors above better than the chartreuse. Once again, I don’t seem to be the target audience for the latest offerings. 😉   (However, I really like the cabinet)

I have one question about the platter that relates to both the Masur Birch and a couple of the Multicare variants. How does the record detect work when there isn’t contrast between the platter “rays” and the platter?

    Thank you.
We developed an additional PCB that allows us to do some stuff 🤣
basically the system still works as it should.

The shots on that page are CGI. Maybe they wait for the “target audience” to exist before launching the actual recreation!

This will probably have divided opinions.
After renovating quite a few Beolink 5000, my BL5K Brother in Arms and I have been working on a white version of a Beolink 5000 that B&O never produced.
This is number 2, judge for yourself!

Great modyfication. I do like the concept although for me there seems to be something off with the color combination with the top plate. This can be due to the photo representation. Maybe it looks better in real life.

If one should do a comparison to the official whiteB&O remotes, the MCP 6500 has white background for the black button and the Beoremote one have the buttons so close that there is no background, so any comparison to what “it would look like” if it was an official product is difficult.

I also remember seeing a white Beolink 1000 once. Not sure if it was an official one, but I also think the top plate was white on that.

I however fully understand that you do not wan’t to change the top plate because of the Bang & Olufsen text.

Thanks Mads for the kind words.

Just for you I’ve attached the requested comparison with the white MCP 6500 and yes the white BL5K is a little bit “off white”.

You are absolutely right that the top plate should have been white as well but as you say then the Bang & Olufsen text will disappear and I’ve no clue how to added it again afterwards
