Hi,
I’m trying to connect a google chromecast audio to my ML/NL converter through the Line-In (via the phono plugs in the NL/ML converter) and play on ML devices. Currently, it works fine with a Beosystem 4 in that I can select Line In on the Beosystem 4 and the chromecast will stream via the NL/ML converter to the Beosystem 4.
what I can’t do though is get the Line-In output to play out on any ML device. I know that the NL/ML converter configuration is fine as I can select it from the Beosystem 4 – just can’t get a Beolab 3500 to stream.
does anyone have any experience of getting the Line-in through the ML system?

I am not sure if I understand your question correctly. But if you want to stream with a Chromecast through a BeoLab 3500, it is possible.
If this is what you want … I do this via the DIN-connector and a Mini-Jack-to-DIN cable. In this case you need a cable that connects the right way to the pins in the DIN-connector.
Then you have to use the Beo remote to activate the ML on the BeoLab 3500, and streaming works.
Let me know, if this is what you meant.

The signal should travel along the ML cable to the Beolab 3500 – but it isn’t. It seems to get to NL connected devices OK.

The soultion you are refering to is for stand alone use of a Beolab 3500 with a Chromecast directly connected to it. What Frog is asking about is a usecase in a combined NL and ML network where the chromecast should be available to more than 1 device.

What role have you given the NL/ML converter?
Have you assigned a source to the Line in that is visible on the ML network and is not used by other sources on the ML network?
Location: Denmark22 February 2025 at 15:02 #63927The role of th NL/ML converter is V.Master (I have a beosound 5 in the system too.
In the NL/ML gateway, I assigned Line In – and I know it works because the Beosystem 4 can stream. I’ve tried assigning it to PC and while I can switch the beolab to PC, it doesn’t stream.

I am actually a little unsure how the Beolab 3500 handles the PC command. I can try to do a test of it tonight.
Do you know if your BL3500 is a MK1 or MK2? MK1 has the MCL engraving under the 8 pin DIN connector on the back?
Have you tried assigning another video source to the Line in that is not in use on the BS4 (provided the BS4 is in the same room)?
Location: Denmark22 February 2025 at 16:41 #63929Not sure what version the Beolab is (I have 2) but pretty sure they aren’t the MCL versions. It’s difficult to look as they are bolted to the wall near the ceiling.
im not sure what you mean about another video source? There isn’t a line-in on the Beosystem 4 – only on the NL/ML converter. I’m happy to use other buttons (DVD, A.Aux etc) for the beolabs – it’s just that the PC one was unused – but any one would do!

On the remote press MENU, then MENU, then 0, then 0, then PLAY.

Location: Flensborg————Danmark22 February 2025 at 18:30 #63936I just did some testing both with a Beolab 3500 MK1 SW 2.0 and a Beolab 3500 MK2 SW 3.1 connected to my NL/ML converter setup as V.Master. I assigned the PC source to the Line in on the NL/ML converter. I used a Beolink converter type 1611 to power the ML network.
In my first testing I could not get sound, but then after changing the role of the NL/ML converter to A.Master and back to V.Master it now works for both Beolab 3500.
So it is possible use the PC command, I was just in doubt.
But one thing that came to mind, Which components do you have on the ML side of the converter besides the BL3500? Do you have a ML audio master, or a ML Powerbox or as I did here a type1611 converter?
Just asking to be sure as I don’t know if this is a setup you had for a long time or a new setup.
Location: Denmark22 February 2025 at 19:18 #63937Well that was weird!
I tried what you did, switching from V.Master to A.Master and back again – and that changed the options of the ‘sources visible on ml’ to add line in.
so now all works as it should! I would never have thought of trying that!
For completeness, I have a ML Powerbox connected to the NL/ML converter and a Beomaster 5 as well as a BeoLink passive connected to some Beovox 1
thanks for your help.
