Hi, I’m having some problems with my Beocenter 7700.

Just a bit of background. Bought it about 2 or 3 years ago for $50 (Australian). Brought it home, turned it on, seemed to work relatively well. Came with a MMC4, vinyl playback worked, cassette player wasn’t working, but could hear the motor engaging when pressing buttons, the radio would turn on, but couldn’t tune into any radio stations (I didn’t have any appropriate aerials at the time). Further, all the buttons on the unit worked with appropriate output on the display. In conclusion, generally it felt like it was in decent condition, but obviously needed some work.

I immediately started working on the cassette player first and straightaway noticed the belts had turned to goo. At this point I put the 7700 into storage to work on it another day. Fast forward 2 or 3 years (today), I put new belts on from Danish Sounds Parts and re-installed the cassette player.

Turned it on. Now it feels like it’s working significantly worse overall since putting it into storage… I’ve attached some videos showing problems with it.

    List of problems:

    • Constantly displays the letter P
    • Cassette player does not work at all. If I press TP1, TP1 will flash up on the display, then within a second revert back to displaying P.
    • Exact same problem with radio, does not work at all. If I press P1 for example, P1 will flash up on the display, then within a second revert back to displaying P.
    • If I press PH, again within a second reverts to displaying P, but tonearm moves over the record, goes down, then immediately back up, then goes into the off position.
    • Volume only goes up to 2:6.
    • Clock can be set, but just stays at whatever time you set it to.
    • Headphones don’t work when I plug them in (I don’t have any approriate speakers at the moment to test).

They’re the main problems I’m having. None of this was happening before I put it into storage.

It never used to constantly display P. I remember the radio turning on with appropriate lights on, but couldn’t tune into stations. Pressing PH would work properly, vinyl would play. I remember hearing the motor for the cassette player engage when pressing TP1 or fast forward/rewind, etc.

    Some things do work:

    • Platter spins
    • Vinyl playback works if I press TURN (I can hear music without using speakers or headphones). Tonearm works properly. Will retract when I press STOP.

Anyone know what has happen while in storage? What’s caused these issues?

Thank you very much for any help.

    Ray

    Hi Ray

Read post #45513 from April 23 I think it would be a good starting point (sorted mine out)

    Thanks for the help.

Was your 7700 doing the same thing as mine?

I’ve also noticed as soon as I connect to power the plater immediately starts spinning and the tonearm moves to the platter then back again and stops… Display just shows the letter P.

Mine was stuck in standby but on operating any function it ran for 6 seconds then went back to standby. I removed the plastic cover from the relay and cleaned the contacts, I also checked the no load voltage per the post and it solved the problem. Not sure if mine displayed P since some of my led don’t function on the display. Hope this helps. Gordon
