Hello everyone,
I am currently expanding my home theater, which includes 4 BL17 speakers and a Theater (see overview image).
I’ve acquired 2 Celestial 86″ speakers that I’m considering adding through a Beoamp 2.
My questions are:
- My home theater isn’t very large (5×3 meters). Will adding ceiling speakers clutter the sound? I also have 2 BL3 speakers that I’ve decided not to include in the setup for this very reason.
- Are there any good suggestions for exactly where they should be placed? I’ve thought about placing them roughly as Dolby recommends, but have I missed anything?
- Does anyone have good experiences or advice regarding the addition of ceiling speakers in a Theatre setup?
20 November 2023 at 14:59 #50633I have 6 x BL17s and do not feel I need dedicated ceiling speakers because the mic calibration ensures I get the sound ‘virtually’ and it is great enough for the amount of real height effects when compared to the much more used ‘surround and back’ channels.
Try this… When you ran the mic room calibration it will have taken readings for the side and up firing speakers on the Theatre. Change in your setup the side firing to Left & Right Surround Height and ensure the Left & Right Up Firing are set to Left & Right Front Height. This will give you the x.x.4 height speakers.
21 November 2023 at 23:43 #50634Hi,i have pretty much come to the same setup as you. Probably for the same reasons. Theatre, BL90s and 3 pairs of BL3s in my rented apartment will shortly become Theatre, BL90, 2 pairs of BOC86 in a ceiling, BL8s as rears in my new home where drilling large holes in walls and ceiling is on my dime.
A few points I can make:-1. Despite their compact size, a 5.0.4 system has a lot of B&O clutter (either in the corners and a problem for wiring……..
2. I think Celestials (if you are able to) reduce a lot of over the top B&O jewellery clutter and I believe they are cost effective (about £2600 per pair of BOC86 plus BeoAmp2)3. Although enthusiastic about the BL8s I have also purchased and listening as Beosounds, they sound very good….but they are now on personal reflection too big as surrounds if ceiling or wall mounted heights – unless you have a big room. My initial expectation was these speakers were the diameter of BL6000/BL28s. Instead….they are stubby BL9s kinda diameter.4. I plan to set up my Theatre Atmos system as per the Dolby guide with overhead over the sofa at 45 degrees front/rear from the listening position.I don’t see it as uber-critical and think the Theatre will work out the math etc…for an exceptional surround system -
