We’ve crafted a story about one of our customers and their incredible journey with their Beogram. This customer, from the picturesque village of Cassis in the south of France, contacted us for a repair.

Determined to bring their Beogram along for the journey, they entrusted it to us. While they awaited their return trip, we successfully restored their Beogram, ensuring it was ready to go home with them.

Billy the Beogram had never been on an adventure like this. Perched snugly in a specially crafted box, he awaited the journey of a lifetime with his owner, Mr. Dixon. Together, they were setting off from the sunlit village of Cassis in the south of France, bound for the northern English city of Leeds. The trip wasn’t just a change of scenery—it was a rescue mission for Billy, who had been lovingly restored but now needed a bit more care to regain his full glory.

“Don’t worry, Billy,” Mr. Dixon murmured as he checked the box one last time, tightening the screws to secure his precious cargo. “We’ll get you there in one piece. Leeds might be colder than Cassis, but it’s home to some of the best people for restoring vintage Beograms.”

Their journey began early, with a short walk to the bus stop. Mr. Dixon balanced Billy’s box carefully as they bumped along the coastal road to Gare de Cassis. The train to Marseille was mercifully smooth, and the bright morning sun reflected off the Mediterranean, a last glimpse of southern warmth before their northern odyssey.

By the time they boarded the TGV to Lille, Billy was safely stowed on Mr. Dixon’s lap. The train whisked them through the heart of France, fields and villages blurring into a postcard-perfect backdrop. Mr. Dixon nodded to fellow passengers, some of whom glanced curiously at the box marked with care labels and a cheeky tag that read: “Please look after Billy—he’s almost 40!”

At Lille, the pace quickened. The Eurostar terminal loomed, and with passport checks to navigate, Mr. Dixon felt a pang of nervousness. Customs officers were friendly, though bemused by his tale of transporting a vintage turntable across Europe. “You’re not smuggling French wine inside, are you?” one joked.

Reassured that Billy wasn’t contraband, Mr. Dixon boarded the train to London. They zoomed through the Channel Tunnel, and by the time they emerged into the sprawling cityscape, dusk had settled. Kings Cross was bustling, but Mr. Dixon had just enough time to grab a sandwich before catching the final leg of their journey: the late train to Leeds.

The train was quieter now, and Mr. Dixon allowed himself a moment to relax, gazing out at the darkened countryside. Billy’s box rested on the seat beside him, and he could almost imagine the Beogram sighing with relief.

“Not far now, old boy,” Mr. Dixon whispered.

By 10:21 PM, they had arrived. Leeds greeted them with a bracing chill, but Mr. Dixon’s spirits remained high. The walk to the Ibis Hotel was longer than Google Maps had promised—especially with a 6.9-kilo Beogram in tow—but soon enough, they were checked in. Billy, safely perched on the hotel desk, seemed to settle in for the night.

The next morning, after an early start, Mr. Dixon met Mark, a fellow enthusiast, who greeted them warmly. Together, they discussed restoration plans, shared stories, and marvelled at Billy’s enduring craftsmanship.

By the time Mr. Dixon caught his 2:15 train back to London, he felt a sense of accomplishment. Billy had been in the right hands, now fully repaired while having a coffee at Multicare the journey had been worth every step. As the train rumbled southward, he couldn’t help but smile.

Billy’s big day out had been an adventure, and Mr. Dixon couldn’t wait to hear his first spin on a perfectly repaired Beogram—another chapter in their shared love of music and memories.

A short video follows from Mr Dixon, showing the Beogram back home and safe.
