BeoSound 3000 pops and hums

Is my 20 years old BeoSound3000 dead? All of a sudden, a fully functional device hums when turned on and gives a loud popping sound when a channel is changed.  What may be the problem? Is it fixable? Its laser was fixed/changed 2-3 years ago at a rather hefty cost so I wonder whether it is worth investing more in this beautiful object.  I’ve surfed through plenty of discussion sites but none mention this kind of a problem.
