I bought a Beosound 4 new back in the mid 90s.  Been in storage since today when i opened it up to test it before selling.  The plastic and outer parts have all aged poorly and is sticky/tacky to the touch and the bottom section leaves black residue on my hands.  I didn’t even bother trying to power it up.

Is there any value in getting it fixed or is it toast? If it isn’t worth fixing, any suggestions on where i can donate it (rather than tossing it in the trash)?

I’m based in Los Angeles if that helps.

    Thx.

    Hello Steven,

Yep that sticky soft-touch finish is nasty now. Some products allow to rub it off with methylated spirit.

Here in the Netherlands the market seems slow: BS4s offered for EUR 175 don’t seem to get sold very fast. Fixing it, or especially, having it fixed before selling does not seem worth it. Maybe offer it on a sales website for pick-up, and an enthusiast could be made happy?

Best of course is,  that by roaming around BeoWorld, you get the BeoVirus again and decide to revive and enjoy it! 🙂

    Regards,

    Johan
