Beomaster 7000 not responding. It lights up, the CG player starts up and very faint threads of sound are coming from the speakers (beolab 8000). But it isn’t responding to the beolink 1000 remote at all – (for some time I have had to press sound >1 > store to get it to respond) but there is no response.
Today I put batteries in the bigger remote which is 5500 and which has worked in the past. But all that is happening is a message telling me that there is no connection.
Is the beomaster dead? Or just in need of repair? I am considering buying a different one but it may end up the same? Any help much appreciated.

23 February 2023 at 02:40 #44063If you had to reset the option setting to 1 often, I would guess that the internal backup battery has died and should be replaced. You don’t want it to leak and damage anything.
Make sure that the upper part of the front panel of the BM7000 is very clean and also the red “glass” windows on your remotes.
To quickly test if the remotes are sending IR signals, you can use the camera on your phone to record a video. The BL 1000 IR emitters are located along the top edge and around to the bottom under the red “glass” covers. Point the camera at the emitters and start recording then start pushing buttons and the remote. Playback the video and check to see if you see the emitters flashing. You can’t see them with the naked eye. The MCP 5500 emitters are located at the corners of the red “glass” along the back edge. Take another video of the MCP5500 and see what happens.
If you see the one or both of the remotes flashing then you can rule one or both out. If either one is working, use it and get close to the BM7000 and press sound > 1 store. If the BM7000 standby light doesn’t blink once, it didn’t receive the IR signal.
Report back your findings and hopefully other members will have some more helpful input.

I have done as you said – the videos show nothing at all from the Beoloink 1000 – no flashing at all, and with the batteries replaced with new ones, still nothing. The 5500 DID show lots of flashing but the BM7000 didn’t respond at all – the 5500 just read NO CONTACT.
I have suspected that the backup battery had gone so I now have to decide whether to have that repaired or just to buy a new BM 7000 or BM6500.

23 February 2023 at 12:18 #44066First of all, it sounds like you have a muting relay problem (faint sound in the Beolab 8000, assuming that they are connected with Powerlink cables and that the setting is correctly chosen on the speakers). Do you have sound in the headphone socket if you connect a headphone?
Secondly, the Master Control Panel 5500 showing ‘No Contact’ is only a sign that there is a problem with 2-way communication. The error can either be in the MCP5500, the BM7000 or possibly both. If the Beolink 1000 does not send out signals, I would first suspect that the battery case is not making proper connection to the batteries – it’s a common file that is easy to fix.
Regarding the Beomaster 7000’s lack of IR response, I would first suspect surface-mounted caps (SMD) on the IR board. But you could start off by simply cleaning the sensors that are bound to be dirty from dust and cigarette smoke.
If you buy another BM7000 there is absolutely no guarantee that you will not run into similar problems or even new problems. they are 35-years old, and they need maintenance, like e.g. a car would not be expected to run for 35 years without exchanging oil, filters, battery etc.
