my beomaster 5000 stopped working, i heard popping and it smoked.
I inspected it and saw that the MM5450 IC (Display) was blown. Now I’ve changed it but the beo 5000 doesn’t turn on, the relays don’t even click.
What can I check to understand the problem?
Thank you23 May 2023 at 07:16 #46821It could be an overvoltage problem on one of the supply rails.
Check for a shorted regulator. Begin with the one supplying the MM5450.
If so, repairs could be intensive.Martin
24 May 2023 at 07:16 #46822Thanks I’ll start with these, I noticed that by inserting the headphones the mute relay activates and I hear a “hummm” noise.
19 June 2023 at 11:03 #46823Beomaster 500 repair update, I replaced two burnt power amps and all LM317.
By measuring the voltage as the manual says on module 4 (microcomputer) instead of 5 volts it shows me 35 volts and by acting on R15 it does not decrease.
Advice?19 June 2023 at 12:16 #4682435V on a 5V rail is bad news.
This is one of those cases that will typically never be completely repaired, seeing as all circuits
running on 5V will be damaged.
Even after repairing and replacing everything that appears to be affected, some
components will still have scars that will show up as faults later. My suggestion – find another Beomaster.

19 June 2023 at 13:36 #46825Thanks, I’ll look into it but either way I want to try and fix it. The problem is that the wiring diagram found on the net does not match.
19 June 2023 at 14:03 #46826Advice?
I agree with Martin’s comments. It sounds like you have the stereo equivalent of an automobile that has been “totaled”. Sure, you could fix it, but it will take an inordinate amount of time and money, and it may not ever be right again. I understand the desire to fix it, especially if the “journey is more important than the destination”.
Another possibility is to buy another BM5000 that is in very poor cosmetic condition and swap the best parts to make one good machine.

19 June 2023 at 15:39 #46827I will use used components that I own on old boards so as not to spend much. I’ll keep you up-to-date.
