TL/DR: I have solved an issue where the Beosound Essence couldn’t see the Beosound 9000 CD in the B&O app’s source list.

I am using the Beolink Converter NL/ML to share my Beosound 9000‘s CD drive to my NL devices (three Beosound Essence MK2, one Beovision V1/40). The Beosound 9000 is the only Masterlink device remaining in my house, and it is directly attached via the Masterlink cable to the Beolink Converter NL/ML I have no speakers attached to the Beosound 9000, and I do not care about IR mapping.

I had trouble configuring the Beolink Converter NL/ML correctly, I did some try+error and came to a setup that works for me (see screenshots attached).

The problem that remained was that in the B&O app, of my three Beolink Converter NL/ML devices, only one was showing the ML sources correctly (see third screenshot), the other two just showed the local Line-In source. I compared the settings of the three Beosound Essence devices and noticed that the one correctly displaying sources had set “Switzerland” as the location (which is correct in my case), while the other two had set “France”. After changing the others’ country settings to “Switzerland” and rebooting the Essence, the sources were displayed correctly.

I literally spent hours trying to figure this out, I hope this short description helps.

PS: Occasionally still, the list of sources remains empty – not even Local-In – but I presume this is a programming error in the B&O app, because a) the length of the list reflects that there should be three entries and b) closing and opening the source list again usually does the trick.

    Hi,

why do you 3 beosound essences? Shouldn’t 1 be enough?

Three rooms, each equipped with one BeoSound Essence. Each playing music autonomously with the ability to be coupled if needed – we do this very seldom.

One BeoSound 9000, feeding CD or AUX (Beogram) signal into any of the Essences.

    Now I understand lechatsurletoit’s question:

When it comes to multiroom deployment, one can adopt either the ML or the NL philosophy:

    1. ML: You stick to a traditional ML deployment and feed digital sources coming from a Beosound Essence via the Beolink Converter NL/ML into your ML deployment. In that case, indeed, you only need one Essence to provide all your ML rooms with digital sources like Spotify or Deezer.
    2. NL: You switch to an Ethernet-based NL deployment – in that case, you have a Beosound Essence in every room and obtain a high level of autonomy for playing digital content. To access traditional ML sources, you feed them via the Beolink Converter NL/ML into your NL deployment.

I assume lechatsurletoit is more on the ML side of the house, whilst Millemis and I are on the NL side.

    Exactly Stefan!

My whole appartement is wired with ML, I do have a BLC and some NL products, but listening to different streams at the same time is not what I’m looking for, as it is more of a nuisance then an experience (like kids blasting their questionable music choices in the kitchen while I’m watching TV).

The idea for me is more that music follows you from room to room when your getting ready in the morning, or playing the same tune in every room when your throwing a big party (WC is also connected).

Probably if you live in a multi floored house or really big place, the setup makes sens, thanks for sharing your experience!

Another benefit of having a NL-based network is, that you can start your listening experience in any room and then take that to another room, if you want to/need to.

Of course, if you have – and are satisfied with it – a fully working ML-based network, piping the options/sources from e.g. an Essence MK2 into the AudioMaster will be sufficient.
Even better would be to have it integrated with a NL/ML Converter to the ML network.

One of the beautiful things about B&O gear is, that you have many possibilities of combining new with old 😀
