Beogram CDX only reads certain cd´s

Hi, just got a CDX and fixed the broken hinge. According to the seller it works just fine, but it only reads some cds, for instance Madonnas Vogue, while it bluntly refuses to read Neil Young. You can see the laser move up and down with the Madonna record. Out of twenty different cd´s i tested it reads four. But these four work really good while the other 16 doesnt even spin up. I cleaned the lens with som IPA, no difference. I dont really want to send it back because I like it. Is there some quick fix? I have read about the recap and resoldering but would that make a difference now that it reads some records just fine?

Are you sure all the CDs you are trying to play conform to the “Compact Disc Digital Audio Red Book” format. Many newer CDs stopped conforming to this and although they will play in newer CD players they may not in something as old as the CDX.

I believe only “real” CDs that had the Compact Disc Digital Audio logo were guaranteed to work on players of that age
