Hi guys,
I need some help.
I just sold a Beogram 4002. The Beogram was serviced by a retired b&o repair man and was working perfectly before I sold it.
before I sold it I adjusted the weight from 1.0g to 1.3g. I did not test the record player after this.
I secured the transport screws and transported the Beogram by car. It was left over night in the car, it was minus degrees during night.when the buyer started the record player, it plays fine but in the middle of the record the arm lifts up and tracks to the middle before it returns to starting position.
I asked the buyer to move the arm to the middle and lower and play from there, and then the needle starts skipping (staying in same position and jumping back in the groove).
it is to far away for me to go and take the player back, so I really hope it is possible to sort out remotely.Any ideas what the issue might be?

The tone arm is mounted on sled that is driven by long threaded rod.
Unlike the 8000 series turntables, the threaded rod is not fixed on both ends and so can become mis-aligned.
The rod is held in place only on the right end of where it is terminated by a bracket and pulley (where the sled motor is). If the bracket has come loose and the rod is misaligned then what happens it the sled can only go partially across the record.
The sled rides across a fixed polished rod. The fixed rod and the threaded rod needs to be reasonably parallel across to each other. If not at some point the divergence between the two becomes to great and so the sled can no longer move.

You’re spot on.
That was exactly the cause of the same problem on one of my repairs about a year ago.
Clean the polished rod at the rear, and install new synthetic oil.
Change the Servo motor belt, for a new flexible type – ID 35-36mm , 1mm square is perfect.
Realign the worm screw to be parallel to the polished rod, and secure it using the bolts behind the servo pulley.
