    Hello everyone ,

I have a Beogram 4002 in very good condition, all the meckanic parts work perfectly and the sound reproduction is brilliant!

Unfortunately a clack, scratch sound ramdomly comes back at least once every LP side.

As amplifier I use a Beomaster 4400 which otherwise works perfectly both with my Tape cassette deck and for playing from my computer. (tape 1 and 2)

Has anyone heard about this problem?

    Kindest regards

    Mats

While I have not heard of this issue, there are some questions that can narrow it down.

    1. Does the sound occur only on one channel?
    2. Does the sound vary with volume; for example, if the volume is turned way down is the sound soft?
    3. Does it occur at the same position on the record or randomly?
    4. Are you using the DIN or RCA jacks?
    5. Have you tried cleaning or replacing the two trimmers R112/212?

Is the clack and scratch sound coming out of the speakers or from the Beogram?

    Hello,

I don’t know, the only thing I’m sure of is that I do not hear te sound when I play anything else than the Beogram 4002.

Could it be the DIN contact on the Beomaster 4000?

    Kindest regards

Can you hear the sounds also if you play a record with the Beomaster turned off or its volume at zero?

Reply to Mark-sf On 1, 2, No! 3. Randomly 4. Iโ€™m using DIN, thatโ€™s what my my Beomaster 4400 has 5. What is R112/212? Kindest regards Mats

Mats, For the sound to come from both your speakers but not be controlled by your volume control is highly unusual and could only occur if the act of playing a record was injecting/disturbing the power amp section of your 4400 directly. I would ask that you try playing a few records with the volume full down and then trying again with the DIN cable unplugged and report your results.

As to R112/212 there are adjustable resisters (trimmers) that are accessed via a screwdriver through the bottom labeled Phono L & R.

Could it be a static discharge from the record/platter/surround?
Has the platter been cleaned with anything other than a soft cloth?

Should I only use a soft cloth then, any specific cloth?

You don’t have to clean the platter now.
It’s just that, if the platter was cleaned at some point, its coating may have been damaged.
Many owners, – particularly of the type 59xx decks, wash their platters or use
solvent-based cleaning products to make the platter shiny.
It may look nice, but the coating has then been washed away and the platters static discharging properties will have been ruined.
This will cause problems with static electricity, that charges up on the record from airs friction. In severe cases you can see “lightning”-type sparks from the record to surrounding chassis metal in a dark room.
The platter should not be shiny. Cleaning should only be done with a soft cloth

Please Dillen, be gentle with new members. You don’t have to be “that” scary, Freddy-len!
