My beloved Beogram 1202 has suddenly developed a ‘skip back’ at the end of final track of every album. As if the arm is not picking up cleanly in returning to it’s off position. Any diagnosis or more saliently a fix, would be immeasurably appreciated please.

26 October 2024 at 12:17 #60454I had this many years ago with a 1203. The tone arm position and lift is controlled by a number of shaped sliding brass plates under the centre of the turntable. In my case the very tip of one of the plates had been bent and was causing premature arm return. Perhaps sticking plates needing lubrication can have the same effect.

I’m not sure I’ve the confidence to go digging in the innards but it certainly sounds a plausible reason. If it persists or starts causing damage to my vinyl, I may well pluck up the courage to lubricate it.
