BRONZE MemberHi all, I have a Beogram 1200 here that is in need of repair. the guy who brought it to me said he had it shipped from the UK. They must have left the tonearm counterweight on and also had no way of holding the tonearm in its pivot (bearing) securely.
As can be seen from the photos it has suffered damage to the anti skate mechanism. There is nothing to retain the anti skate adjustment knob/spring/spindle. I can see a small recess machined in to the end of the adjustment knob and also on the inside of the tonearm pivot bracket (bearing).
Does anyone know if there is supposed to be a small circlip or the like to retain this assembly? The manual doesn’t show any such detail as it only furnishes the tonearm as a complete unit.
Any help appreciated, thank you.

ModeratorThat’s not antiskating. It’s the tracking force setting.
It’s something you would normally not take apart. Originally, it was sold only as a complete assembly and, unless you are a really skilled DIY’er, I would recommend you replace it as such.Martin

BRONZE MemberHi Martin, long time since we have spoken. Thank you very much for your reply and yes appologies, tracking force, the anti skate is built in.
I am pretty handy at repairs on these things as l have repaired many in the past, l just don’t currently have another Beogram here to compare it to so I am unsure of the exact part that is missing.
I may as you say have to purchase a complete arm, does seem a waste though as l will have to get posted from overseas which will cost nearly as much as the value of the turntable.
Thanks again.

BRONZE MemberHi there,
I think, i have very much the same problem – so i dare to revive this old thread.
After a transport the tracking force knob is loose and hangs out of the metal ring. Is there a chance to reattach the knob and fasten the hinge?
Is there maybe a technical drawing of this part to help me understand how this knob works? And how it is attached of course.
Thanks in advance for any help!
5 September 2025 at 03:15 #69373BRONZE MemberDieter, I’m not following your description. Assuming you have a 1200, the rear counterweight when screwed fully in is factory to the tracking force as there was no user adjustment on that model. Perhaps you can post a picture.

BRONZE Member5 September 2025 at 19:01 #69391BRONZE MemberThanks for the pictures. I’m afraid that level of tonearm bearing damage is not repairable.. You will need to replace the tonearm to restore the turntable. Many of these have bad motors so you may find one for parts that you can use its tonearm.
