Beocord 5000 – Fast forward & rewind work, but not play

Hello! I recently got some B&O equipment that I wanted to fix up and I decided to start on the Beocord 5000.

 

I cracked it open, cleaned it up a bit and replaced the belts. They seem to be working ok and all modes seem to work without a tape in place, but when I put a tape in, the capstan moves but the take-up reel doesn’t move.

The only soft part I haven’t replaced is the idle tire. Is that likely the culprit or do I have something else I need to hunt down going on?

I think I found the problem but I’m not sure how to fix it. Looks like this plastic piece is all chewed up on the take-up side..

Second update, I managed to get it to play without that piece and ended up getting a plastic repair kit in the mail so I did the best I could with what I had for it.

Now it will play, fast forward, rewind, and advance, but it won’t return for some reason.
