I bought a Beo6 from eBay (I already have a couple, but wanted another).ย  It was programmed for use with a Beosound 5 and several link rooms which I donโ€™t need, so I wanted to reprogram it.ย  I have an old Win7 32-bit PC which Iโ€™ve kept specifically for this purpose.

Oddly though, when I connect the dock to the PC and put the Beo6 on the dock, the PC doesnโ€™t make the expected โ€˜device connectedโ€™ noise, and no configuration is created in the Beo5/6 config tool.ย  Iโ€™ve tried both v6.84 and the earlier v5.12 of the comfig tool, just in case.ย  Iโ€™ve also checked Device Manager on that Win7 PC and the Beo6 driver does not appear when that Beo6 is docked.

I know that the PC and config tool are working okay, as they work fine when I dock either of my other two Beo6.

The Beo6 seems to know that it is connected to a PC, as โ€˜USBโ€™ appears at the top of the display when you dock it.ย  If I use Standby+Go I can get into the settings and see that it has software version 3.00a.ย  I can also see that the config has been updated 24 times in the past, so it was obviously working then!

It did need a new battery but I have successfully installed that already.

Iโ€™m at a loss โ€“ this is the first Beo6 (or Beo5) that I have not been able to rescue with a new battery and a software update.ย  Any ideas?

    Hi Charlie,

Even when you meticulously follow the wake up procedure for Beo5/6 it sometimes doesโ€™nt work. Then you try again the day after and it works.
Once I was close to prove that it has to do with the conjuction of solar wind, the song playing in the radio at that exact moment, and the time of the days. But in the end I was unable to gather enough data to be sure.

Iโ€™ve become comfortable that there is no rules when playing with those thing but this one: A dead Beo6 does not exists.

You have to keep trying until it works.

    Good luck!

Thanks!ย  I think Iโ€™ll open it up and check the connections are okay (after all, something could have come loose when I changed the battery).

Itโ€™s the summer solstice today so that might help, as long as I also paint my face in green and white stripes, and put one foot into a bucket salted of water.

By the way, I forgot to mention, I did try to โ€˜resetโ€™ it using instructions found on the old forum (hold the GO button down for 30 seconds), but it didnโ€™t work.ย  It goes into standby after 3 seconds, but thereโ€™s no indication of anything happening after 30 seconds, and when I power it back up, the configuration remains.
