Hi All,
I have recently bought a Beocentre 5000. When I bought it the unit was working nicely but upon bringing it home the unit now has a problem.
When I switch it on to radio using the P1-P6 buttons it only stays on for 5 seconds. During the 5 seconds it sounds great !!!
When I switch it to phono the platter spins up and the arm moves but as it doesn’t have a stylus I can’t play a record. Regardless of this the unit will stay powered up until I press the stop button and the arm returns, then after 5 seconds it switches off.
When I switch it to tape the heads engage, then disengage and the unit goes into standby 5 seconds later. The belts for this have disintegrated.
There are 2 small light still illuminated on the display so it’s not completely powering off.
Any suggestions before i head down the path of having a B&O tech start poking around.

-Power supply ripple (bad filter capacitors).
-DC on a speaker output (bad differentiel amplifier stage).
-Idle current trimmer(s) bad.In that order.

7 December 2023 at 09:46 #51116Thanks Martin,
I will have this checked out. Some people have mentioned the unit going into ‘protect mode’. Do you think this is what is happening as it looks like it is just going into standby with the 2 LED’s on the display?
Cheers,
Peter W.

Or the supplied power is not clean, making the processor run unpredictable.Martin
8 December 2023 at 12:10 #51118OK, here’s the latest update. I took the BC5000 to a local ex-B&O tech (40 years with B&O) and he told me it would be $165 to inspect and the total repair would probably be around $500 to $600.
Then….. he mentioned a unit that was sitting off to the side, a BC7007. I made an offer ($200) and he took it. So now i have a working unit (needs new stylus as it’s worn down) complete with the remote and hardcopy manual, very nice and in much better condition than the 5000.
I’ll offload my BC5000 for parts this weekend, maybe $100
