Balance Tonearm on Beocenter 7007

Hello, I want to check the actual tracking force for my MMC4 cartridge. To begin the process, I want to zero-balance my tonearm first. How do I get the tonearm free, that is off, from the lift/lower lever, so I can have the tonearm float freely? Secondly, having completed the zero-balance and setting the tracking force on the dial of the counter weight, I would still like to verify tracking force with a digital stylus gauge. To do this, how do I get the arm to lower on it, without the platter/record moving?
