Second owner on this table. Had it serviced and was told solenoid was bad. Had it replaced. Worked wonderfully for 6 months. Then tone arm decided not to drop…again. Everything else works as it should. Pulled damper and linkage. Very clean. Re-lubed and reassembled. Still no drop. Picture shows the linkage arms I worked on. I can manually lower arm when pushing where the damper would extend and do the job but of course it does not stay down. (fyi, springs were not attached when I took the picture)
When started everything moves where it should and I get “the click.”
Would testing solenoid be next best solution or is there something I am missing?
27 February 2024 at 22:38 #53078When you stat that the arm does not stay down, is that because the actuator does not retract? If that’s the case I would check the actuator circuit. Since you state you had it serviced for a bad solenoid, did they replace anything besides it? Do you have a voltmeter to be able to test the circuit?
28 February 2024 at 04:00 #53079Yes I can test the circuit. I don’t believe they did anything else(if even that) The linkage was so clean I am wondering if they just cleaned it up and did not even replace the solinoid. Not real fond of that shop right now. Doesn’t the damper extend and push the to the rear thus forcing the arm to lower?
Thanks
28 February 2024 at 17:47 #53080The damper only causes the arm to lower slowly. It’s the solenoid activation that releases it to lower. If it is not staying down, what is the DC voltage you across the solenoid when the arm is supposed to be down?
29 February 2024 at 13:40 #53081When you say you can manually operate the solenoid armature by hand and the tone arm drops, release the tone arm manually and the tone arm rises this is normal operation and suggests that mechanically all is well….also when you press start the tone arm moves to the drop point, assuming a disc is on the turntable, and stops ….but you hear a “click” this suggests that the solenoid is actually pulling in….is that the case? can you watch and see what happens when you hear the “click”

29 February 2024 at 15:00 #53083I will have to check the voltage.
29 February 2024 at 23:18 #53084The click you are hearing is the muting relay. Make sure you use the schematic for your specific Type number as the circuit did change over the production period.
