I’m working on a web-based viewer for the old “Product Configuration Guide” data files, which exist from at least 1994 to 2010.
There were both DOS and Windows viewers for this data, but running them is a bit tricky in 2026. The viewers ingested “rule sets”, which represented a combination of market and language. You navigate through a series of choices, starting with the Video system, and end up with a “Conclusion” that tells you how to configure various settings, hardware additions, and room options.
The web-based viewer recreates this path, and allows you to view and print out the Conclusion document for your particular configuration.
As a side effect of converting the binary *.RUL files to JSON, we can also provide a search for products across all rulebooks.
So far I’ve converted 1994, 1997, 2009 and 2010 data. If anyone else has old copies of the Product Configuration Guide software, please drop a note here or send me a message and I can convert those files as well, for better coverage.
