I collected a Beovision 11-46 today bought from eBay.  The seller demoed it briefly before I picked it up and it was working, including the motorised floor stand.

I got it home and set it up, but the plug for the motorised floor stand seemed to be a poor fit and when I plugged it in, it did not work, and there was no ‘Stand’ item in the TV menu.

I looked at the socket for the stand on the back and it did look at thought the pins were not in the right position – maybe I had bent them when I first tried to connect it.  I was looking at those pins on that back, when to my horror there was a pop, a crackling sound, and smoke came out of the back of the TV (from the right side of the TV, if looking at it from the front).  It was quite a lot of smoke and quite smelly.

I was therefore surprised that the TV still worked!  I switched it on again to an HDMI source, the picture and sound were both fine (there’s no aerial connected so I can’t test the tuner).  I did manage to get the stand plug in properly and it clicked into place as I expect it should, but the stand is still not working.  I wonder if pop, crackle and smoke was something to do with that?

If anyone has any clues as to what the cause might have been, and/or how to get the stand working, I’d be grateful.  I notice that two of the four pins for the stand socket sit deeper inside than the other two – is that normal, or have I pushed them down by mistake when I first tried to connect it?

I’m now convinced I must have shorted the pins for the stand connection while I was trying to get the plug to fit in properly, and that caused something to blow inside the TV, relating to the way it controls the stand.  That explains why the TV is working but the stand is not.  Those pins are a bit of a nightmare – I unplugged the stand again and now I can’t get the plug back in again.

I’ve had it 2 hours and I think I’ve already broken it due to my own carelessness!

Those pins/the connection are indeed tricky….I hate them 😉

You must be very carefull when you pull out the plug, that the ‘inner part’ does not also come out.

If it does, you’re lost….at least I was.
I had to have it fixed by a B&O technician.

Sorry – I can not give you an advice.

Yes I’m quite convinced I shorted the pins while I was messing about with it – my own stupid fault for not disconnecting it from the mains.  This at least explains why the TV is working fine, with the exception of the stand.

I dropped my Beogram 6500 off at Multicare today for repair, so it looks like when I go to pick that up in the New Year, I’ll be taking my TV to them for repair too!

Now I’m trying to get it all connected to my Beosound 9000 and Beosound 5 via a Beolink Converter NL/ML.  Not figured it all out yet, but I’ll keep trying…
