I have a Beocord 2000 and I cannot figure out why it’s only recording on the right channel.  If I play a pre-recorded tape it plays both channels, but if I record onto a tape and then play, I only get sound on the right channel.

The recording tape head seems to be aligned correctly, as are the tape guiding pins connected to it.  I’ve checked the connections inside (there are two cable connectors connecting the tape mechanism to the main board), and they are fine.  I cleaned it up inside, and cleaned the recording tape head, but it remains the same – it is only recording the right channel.

The two datalink pins had been removed from the DIN plug by the previous owner, but the 5 remaining pins are there. I guess it could be a loose connection in the cable, but I’m reluctant to try and take that apart unless I know that the problem lies there.

Any advice would (as always) be appreciated.

I’m thinking it might be that now.  I’ll open it up, track where each wire is going from each pin, and use a multimeter to see if the connection is good.

I know these B&O DIN plugs are tightly packed inside and note easy to disassemble, so I’m hoping that’s not that!
