      Dear B&O Forum,

I hope you’ve all had a good start into the new week.

For the past few weeks, I’ve been diving into the world of B&O. My wife and I have share the passion for high-quality audio since many years. Unfortunately, due to a recent move, we had to sell our beloved stereo system (B&W 802 Diamond D2).

Given the limited space in our new home, the Beolab 18 speakers caught my attention. After a short listening session, we were already impressed by their sound. Now that we are seriously considering them, I would like to ask for your advice on a couple of points:

      Positioning the Beolab 18:
The speakers would be placed 2.40 meters apart. However, they would only have about 30 cm space to the rear wall and the side walls. Would this be sufficient if I set the Beolab 18 to the “Wall” position? (picture attached)

      Streaming and Wireless Setup:
I came across a WiSA Platin Hub in a Buchardt forum, which is said to transmit audio signals (streaming or HDMI) to Buchardt speakers https://buchardtaudio.com/pages/platin-hub-details. From what I’ve read, do I understand correctly that for a wireless setup with the Beolab 18, I would need both the Beosound Core and a transmitter? Any experience with other products to stream music to the Beolab 18?

I’d greatly appreciate your insights and tips. Thank you in advance for your help!

      Best regards,
      Daniel

        Welcome to the forum!

I commenced my audio setup with B&O On BL18 speakers and connected them to a Marantz receiver for several years. The system performed well.

Firstly, I recommend avoiding wireless connectivity if possible. Looking at the provided image, it appears that running cables to the cabinet is a straightforward option. Wireless connectivity would incur additional costs and introduce potential reliability issues.

An alternative solution is to consider purchasing a Beosound Essence Mk 2 speaker and connecting it directly to the BL18 speakers using power link cables (Cat7 Shielded Ethernet). This option offers a more cost-effective alternative to either the new or old core speakers. While the new core is touted for its superior sound processing capabilities, the decision to upgrade ultimately lies with you.

With the Essence Mk 2, you gain access to AirPlay 2, internet radio, Spotify, and the ability to connect a CD player or turntable and the firmware is still being updated.

For a more immersive experience, you could opt for a Beosound Theatre speaker system. This system allows for wireless or wired connectivity, as I personally chose. The Theatre system delivered an exceptional listening experience.

It is important to note that if you opt for a third-party receiver, you will lose the ability to control the sound using the B&O app. Given your potential future involvement with B&O products, it would be advantageous to integrate all components into a single application that seamlessly integrates with room sharing and automation features.

I see a soundbar under the tv.
Do you want seperate systems for video-listening and audio-listening? Or would you like to use the 18’s for the sound of the tv as well (eliminating the soundbar)?

For a room – as shown in the picture – I would rather go for the BL8’s. These can be played to directly (they are smart speakers).
The 18’s would need some kind of player connected (a Beoconnect Core or the Essence MK2, as already suggested), since the are ‘dumb’ speakers.

Apart from the fact that the 18’s would be more dominating in the room than the BL8’s, they – being ‘dumb speakers’ – are more flexible regards the choice of a connected player.
A Beoconnect Core – in addition to the smart functions – has a HDMI-input, if you’d want the sound from the tv there.

P.S. I agree…..go for a wired connection – it seems no problem in this case.

Looking forward to see the result 😀

Many thanks for your responses, which are much appreciated. Have you tried the BL8?

I have a very interesting offer for the BL18. The BL8 I never tried. 🙁 I would get the 18 cheaper than the 8 so my decision was to go for the 18.

If I want want to extend the setting with the BL19 sub I would need the transmitter, right? The position would be behind the Couch other side of the room.

The first idea was just for stereo music but I would love to get rid of the Sonos Soundbar and Sub. So if they are doing a good job I would be happy to get rid of the Soundbar and Sub. Are you using these for TV?

            Best greetings

            Daniel

if you get an essence it has two Power link ports. You can connect the 18s to one port, and then the 19 to the other port just run a cable around the room along the floorboards and this way you can avoid having to get the expensive transmitter.

                Good evening everyone 🙂

I did it. I just placed the order with my B&O dealer. It will be the Beolab 18 in stainless steel and oak, along with the Beoconnect Core. As you recommended, I’ll skip the transmitter and connect everything to the Core with cables.

I’m already excited to hear how the TV sound will perform and whether we’ll end up selling the soundbar and subwoofer. Otherwise, I’m certain the B&O will bring me immense joy when listening to music.

I’ll keep you updated once the sideboard is downsized and the speakers are set up. Delivery is scheduled just before Christmas. 🙂

                  Congratulations,

Every single new owner of a pair of Beolab 18 (the whole pair) should have a song in his name.

I’d like to have a song in my name!

                  Congrats again.
