Does anyone have experience using the new Digital Powerllink feature on their Theatre and Mozart speakers? ย I noticed it officially launched yesterday and when I updated the app it pointed me to an FAQ. ย In true B&O fashion the link they provided is dead:

Please note that they are talking about Wireless as well as about Wired Digital Powerlink.

There have been DPL ports (RJ45) on many speaker products for a while now.

I wonder if e.g. the BL90 can be used wired with the BS Theatre (which has a free network port) and this way provide a digital connection instead of the old analog PL?

Edit! Iโ€™ll have to correct myself – reading on the B&O Discord reveals, that the DPL version of the 90โ€™s is not compatible with the new Mozart-based ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

Details are vague and there is stuff I cannot talk about but my understanding is the the original DPL seen on products like the BL90 and 50 is a high-speed/high quality proprietary communication system between Master to Slave on the big Beolabs. Both data, post-data and music is sent from the Master to the Slave. I believe it only exists as a CAT7/8 Transfer link.

This technology may have been superseded by the last +3-5 years of BeoApp development (Settings for both speakers can be accessed and I guess communicated to each via the app/wifi directly and possibly WISA?

The new DPL is/has to be Mozart based and I believe it is a (more or less) real-time Ethernet/Wifi/Lan solution. The DPL of the BL90/50 and the DPL of Mozart-based products are not compatible or interchangeable with each other.

From my experience, adding the Moz-DPL speakers to the Theatre instead of WISA I believe somewhat simplifies the whole setup. The Theatre takes over all the controls as a DPL Master and you can even hide Moz-DPL speakers from your product page so everything is Theatre-centric.

Looks so far to be quite a unifying solution and will be probably ensure WISA (cable-less powerlink ) and Powerlink will soon die-off in future products?

The Moz-DPL tech not only simplifies the setup, it also allows for way more speakers (= the newer BS) to be used in a multichannel setup.

And yes, we probably wonโ€™t see many speakers with analog PL in the future (the BL8 is maybe the last one).

Luckily the BS Theatre has analog PLโ€™s allowing for the use of oldschool BL there.

If there will ever be a (entry level) new Stage-like soundbar, I suppose that that will only have support for wireless Moz-DPL.

    Interesting future ๐Ÿ˜€

How about a Moz-DPL receiver for adding old Beolabs, just like there was a WiSA receiver ๐Ÿค”

Or how about a headphone with support for Moz-DPL !

Hi, Have anyone tried the new DPL-Software 4.1.1.116 and connected Mozart speakers to Theatre? Does it work well or is it a buggy software?

Is there a manual how to connect Mozart-speakers with DPL-connection? There is one important thing that I think not all Mozart speakers owners know. It is that if you have two Mozart speakers that are Paired together (working as a stereo pair), you have to separate the pair in the APP before you connect them as DPL speakers. If they are not disconnected as pair, they will not show up in the list of speakers for DPL-connection in the APP.

Are B&O going to make more “promotion” regarding this new DPL-feature? It is a very good thing but people has to know that it exists.

Seems the FAQ link in the first post is now working ๐Ÿ™‚

Im confused as to what protocol this DPL uses. If I have a beosound 2 and I connect it to my Theatre wirelessly what protocol does it use to transmit? it is using WIFI direct somehow to WISA or what?

Hi, it is wifi protocol or if you have wired ethernet, it goes with that.

So is it eating up my 5ghz or 2.4ghz bands. Does the Audio use a lot of bandwidth?

You can choose between LC3+ (lossy) and PCM (lossless).

Although LC3+ is lossy, itโ€™s a high quality codec and not squeezed (fixed 500kbps per channel). It also offers best in class error correction, so in case of bit errors, you actually wonโ€™t notice whereas PCM will give you a dropout in sound.

    P.S.

I guess you will need two (of the same) devices/as a pair.

Iโ€™d go for a wired connection, (if you want the lossless version).

A Mozart BS2 can be used / connected wirelessly with a Theatre – the app (connected speakers part of Theatre settings) will give you the option to select/connect via 3 means now. ย Those 3 being Powerlink, WISA, and now DPL. ย  If you have a DPL speaker, that will be an option.

More broadly, you can only connect a max of 4 speakers to the Theatre via DPL.

” In a fully wired setup, a wired connection between your router and Beosound/Beovision Theatre is mandatory.”

    Hmmm interesting, wonder why

What they mean is that all mozart products (Theatre and speakers you want to connect with DPL) should be on the same network. Easiest way to check this is that you reach all products with the BO App. BO could describe this in a little more easy way.

Have anyone of you tried to connect Mozart speakers with DPL?

Yep. 28โ€™s to my Theatre. And also used a Balance as surround speaker via DPL.

Everything works fine, but Iโ€™d like to still be able to use my speakers independently from Theatre – which is not possible via DPL. So I am back to PL.

Do you know what the performance is regarding audio quality ? WISA is limited to 24 bits /96kHZ, is it the same ?

    Answered above no?
