Why am I hearing different volume and content when playing the same track on the same App with the only difference using either the ‘onboard the TV’ LG (G3 65”) Apple Music app vs Apple Music on the Apple TV 4K device?
Is it because the LG App uses Bitstream and the Apple TV is PCM MAT, and how the Theatre process the source codec?
For transparency the PCM MAT Dolby Atmos sounds materially better to me (is my preference) and is maybe +8 db louder.
However, what is helpful when using the onboard the TV app every time any Dolby Atmos content is played music or movie the icon in the top right of the TV pops up stating ‘Dolby Atmos via Soundbar’, meaning I don’t need to check the signal info on the B&O App.
If you have the Apple TV 4K hardware and an Apple Music subscription try the A/B test for yourself.
Two tracks used:
- Somedays – Single by Sonny Fodera, Jazzy and D.O.D
- Boom – Single by Tiesto & Sevenn
I was made aware of Track 2 ‘Boom’ by my B&O dealer and heard in his demo room… blew me away how the mix throws the sound around the room!
My setup 3 x BL17 (WiSA) and a BL19 (Wired) with the Theatre. Soon adding a fourth set of BL17s to complete my setup with Theatre set as FL, C, FR and the BL17s set as SL, SR, BL, BR, LFH, RFH, (LSH, RSH install in 4 weeks)
