Hi! I am restoring a Beogram 1202. One question; Is it normal that the gap between pickup and record are so small? If not, how do I adjust the gap?

5 January 2024 at 08:00 #51890While it is not the best angle to examine, it does look like the tracking force is too heavy or the stylus’s suspension is shot and needs replacement. If it’s an SP-10 or 12 it should be 1.2 grams.
5 January 2024 at 08:52 #51891Hi,
Despite the fact that these are different turntables, the photos on this page should help give you an idea of how things should lookhttps://www.tonmeister.ca/wordpress/2022/09/11/beograms-side-by-side/
Note that there are some different issues that can cause this angular error:
- as Mark-sf said, tracking force is the first suspect… However, if this looks to be correct, then:
- the height of the platter can be adjusted using an adjustment screw. This might be incorrect if you’ve completely disassembled the turntable
- the suspension of the pickup might be damaged
5 January 2024 at 09:27 #51892a little more information:
I just had a look at the service manual for the Beogram 1202 and 3000. The recommended tracking force stated there is:
- Beogram 1202 with an SP 14 A pickup: 2.0 g equivalent
- Beogram 3000 with an SP 10 A pickup: 1.2 g equivalent

5 January 2024 at 16:17 #51894Thanks Geoff! I will take a look at the pickup. I did set it to 2g, but I am not sure if it is SP10 or SP14. I tried to adjust the three screws for the platter-hight, but if I lower the platter, the pickup-arm stand also lowers. So the gap are constant.
