I recently picked up a Beogram 4002 type 5513 – it is cosmetically in great shape, with the exception of the finish on the outside of the cover that goes over the tonearm lift mechanism. Something has rubbed on it over time and exposed the bare metal underneath – this is in fact the worst blemish on the whole unit, so it really stands out as an eyesore. I would like to refurbish the cover.
Is there any place to buy these covers, or does anyone have experience refurbishing this piece? I can easily fill, sand, and paint it, but am not sure I could duplicate the texture of the finish – it is much coarser than the tonearm. I’m also not sure how I would replace the lettering.
Alternatively, I could match the smoother finish (and color) on the tonearm – I seriously doubt anyone would be the wiser. But I’m still left trying to duplicate the lettering.
I’m sure others have had this issue. Any thoughts?
Thank you very much for your help!
Apologies for the duplicate images – I’m not sure how to edit those out.
