Hello!

is ist possibile to put 5 Beolab 7.4 as an surround system?

does it make sense?

i have them from other installations and i thought if this would sound good?

the TV is a Beovison 7/55

Why not? It is a cheap solution for great sound.

I do that only with 2 BL7.4 for stereo sound and it is so much powerfull when you look movies.

You need a special powerlink cable that to do the stereo signal splitted in left and right channel.

A german company do that for me. In UK is our sponsor Steve from Sound Heavenly the best address.

Why? 5PL connections on the BV7 PL connected to 5 Beolab 7.4. Then program to right output to the correct 7.4.
You can even chain two BL7.4 to each other!

Have you try that out? I have it and it dont works with my BVE. BL 7.4 is only  a mono speaker and not a typical stereo speaker from B&O as the other ones do you know.

But ok, I am not a technican and I am very happy with the splitter when the helicopter flight from the left side to the right side in movies.

You can try it out and make your own experience.

Hi beos6, not a bad thought! Powered speakers with proprietary acoustic lens technology in a casted aluminium cabinet, sometimes for 50 euros. Hard to beat, they were not cheap when new, like 2500. You might need some space for the BV7s and stands that come with them though :-). And they tend to be a bit sticky.

What was your thought how to place them (stands)?

this is a great idea…!! never thought of this.. If we use just 1 Beolab 7.4 for center.. we only send Left OR Right…correct?  We dont send both signals (L R) to this speaker. I ask because..i have a 7.4 that we make the RCA cable to powerlink and 12v trigger. We send BOTH left and right..but the speaker sounds very loud..more than the other speakers..i think we send double signal too much.

Interesting, but….

there is a difference. If you connect them to a Beosound the PL will always have the right and left channel.
if you PL connect the speaker to a BV7 and instruct to play for example “front right” to this PL connection then it only will play this channel.

That said, with the quoted post in mind, you should not chain the speakers but feed/connect them separately.

Could be …. but I have my further misgivings with the mono speaker BL7.4

I dont try that out because i had only 2 PL DIN/DIN cable and a DIN-DIN/RJ45 splitter from the BL7.4 to the BVE

BUT why is that splitter working with every other BL speaker and only NOT with the BL7.4?

Now is it as it is in my setup with my left/right channel splitter and I am happy with this.

how you can see in my setup that I have two BL7.4. Left and right.

I splitted the stereo powerlink signal from my BVE with a special splitter cable for the left and the right side.

You cant hear a stereo signal from only one BL7.4 speaker. The BL7.4 was to build as a center speaker for BV7

In my setup that works pretty good but the opinion are divided here.

It is up to you to try something out.

The BL7-4 hardwires internally the left and right channel. So, in a stereo setup you need to split the cable into a dedicated left or right channel.

If you use a powerlink socket on for instance a BS3 you will notice that 2 channels will give sound on the BL7-4 on the used socket.

(BS3 = Beosystem 3?)

This depends on the set-up of the channels in the BS3.

PL connect every BL7.4 with one PL cable. Setup one PL socked (= one BL7.4) to reproduce 1 channel (f.e. Surround Left), et voila.

But on a Beosound you can’t choose, so you’re right then one will hear both channnels.
