I’ve noticed that Beo5 remotes can come up quite cheap on eBay here and there.  I’ve never owned one; I have a Beolink 1000 and a Beo4, but my Beo4 has developed an issue with the display, so rather than replace it with another Beo4, I thought I might consider the Beo5 (or I suppose the later Beo6, if one comes up).

I know however that the Beo5 needs to be programmed because B&O expected you to get one of their engineers in the reprogram it if you got a new device (because of course they did).  I have found that the configuration tool for PC for Beo5 or 6 is available for download – has anyone ever used it?  How can anyone tell me how easy it is to program a Beo5 or 6 using this?

I would want to program the Beo5 to control my Beocenter 8000 (with Beogram 8500 turntable connected) Beovision 8-40 TV, and potential future purchases of B&O products from the 90 or early 00s if  I see any I like!

I bought a Beo6 for very little money.  I twice read the Guide (v.2) generously written by hfat in 2012.  I installed the CTSetup program, version 6.84.

I played with the software and with my remote.  I couldn’t quite get it to do what I wanted; in particular, the Beo6 works nicely with my BS5 N.MUSIC, but I could not make N.RADIO even start on the BS5.  I asked for help in the forum but apparently not very many people are familiar with the system anymore.

It must be said, the Beo6 has the very nicest volume control of all B&O devices that I know.

Thank you – I have the same configuration tool version downloaded already, and I have juts found the guide by hfat that you mention, that will be really helpful.

I’m hoping that since I intend to use it for quite basic operations of my older Beocenter and TV, I might be okay as long as I have help setting it up, which I now have.

I’ve seen them go on eBay for less that £100 in good condition, so I think I’ll get one now – thanks.

            I have a beosound5 and beomaster5 and a beo5.
The beo5 has the N.Music and N.Radio function.
            Now I bought a beo6 because it has a two-way function.
The problem is the N.Music and N.Radio function is not on the screen.
Can I install it myself, or do I have to go to a dealer?
If I can do it myself, what kind of software should I use?

You are able to do this yourself if you download the Configuration Tool. Here is a link that will help.

              Config Tools

It is a bit of a steep leaning curve and be aware that you cannot save the configuration that is currently on the remote. But once you get the hang of it, you can make the Beo5/6 a very useful tool. Research as much as you can before you start and make sure the remote is FULLY charged before trying to program it. The charger base does not charge fast enough when connected by USB to the computer so do not rely on that when programming. Connect to the wall charger in between each download to the remote.
