- Would this work on a Mk 1 system
- Would I need to 'power up' the A8 or would it just work when it received an AUX signal from the projector
- Would the volume via the projector output work or would I have to change the volume on the A8
BEOPLAY A8

I have an ultrashort show projector from Philips (U4) with AUX out available for audio in our bedroom. There are a few Beoplay A8 available and I was thinking of using one for a main speaker for the UST projector.
I use my old Beoplay A8 for different test setup’s from time to time.
Once I had an Essence MK2 connected - a nice little setup!
The line-in there has autosense….it turns the A8 on, when there is sound coming.
It works well - some times it is a bit tricky, though.
.Basically you have two volume controls (maybe even 3, if you also have a source connected to the projector).
Best thing to do is to set the volume of the projector to fixed output or to a high start up volume…if possible.
And then control the volume of the A8.
Maybe you are lucky to get the small remote for it as well - or you can use a Beo4.
The A8 is a good sounding ‘speaker’.
P.S. The original Beosound 8 does the job as well.

If you like the Beosound 35 form factor, you can try a Beolab 3500 with 1611 converter.
You'll loose auto sense but you'll win a second input you can use with a playmaker or an Airplay box and maybe a better stereo image.
Steve once told BL3500 are not good for TV due to lack of center channel.
Maybe that will be less noticeable with A8 but I think A8 is cute on a table, less to the wall where BL3500 shines.
