Beomaster5 map Music is "read only".

Hello BM5 users, I want to copy music from my NAS to BM5 share "Music". I cannot drag&drop or copy music from my NAS. I cannot use Beoconnect on my Windows11 PC: it does not work after install. I see that there is indicated "V" READ ONLY in the map BM5 music. Can I safely remove this without damage to BM5?

Hi Joris, I’d be careful about removing the read-only attribute directly, as it’s worth confirming first whether it’s a Windows permissions issue or a restriction on the BM5 share itself. Check that you’re accessing the correct network share and that the account you’re using has write permissions. If the original BeoConnect software isn’t working on Windows 11, accessing the share through File Explorer may be another option, provided the BM5 is configured to allow writing. Has anyone confirmed whether the Music folder is supposed to be writable on the BM5, or whether a specific user account is required?

The Music folder on the BM5 is meant to be writable. That’s how BeoConnect adds music. The "Read-only" box doesn't matter. However,

  1. The share is hidden. It won’t appear under Network. In File Explorer, choose Map network drive and enter <code dir="ltr">\\<IP of your BM5>\bm-share$ (with the <code dir="ltr">$). You can find the BM5’s IP in its network settings menu. Maybe you already did this?
  2. Windows 11 has SMB1 turned off. The BM5 runs an old embedded Windows and only speaks SMB1. Windows 10/11 disable it by default, which is why BeoConnect and drag-and-drop fail. Go to Control Panel → Programs → Turn Windows features on or off, tick SMB 1.0/CIFS Client, and possibly reboot
You can also rip out the HDD from the BM5 and connect via SATA/USB as a last resort :-) Or convert to bs5c!
