  • Re: Chromecast built-in - working/not working?

My A6 is now running stable grouped together with a Google Home speaker since the latest B&O SW update a few weeks ago. The A6 is currently running 1.25.43619.92550662 with CC version 1.28.102057. I noticed that when B&O pushed this update (from 1.25.43618), google speaker groups stopped working until I did a reset. After that reset it's been 100% stable. I have to say it still boggles the mind that B&O seems to be unable to get their SW under control without impacting their customers

Likewise, after the latest SW update my A6 stays connected and available in the Google Home app. The only remaining hiccup is that scheduled events (aka. "routines" in Google speak), such as streaming the news at 6am from TuneIn via Chromecast to a speaker group which includes the A6 don't always reliably happen. I think this is a Google Home problem, though, and not something B&O is to blame for.

So what you're suggesting is that it's not really the roaming part that is beneficial, but the fact that the B&O product stays connected to Wi-Fi even while in standby mode? This would make sense (assuming that without this feature enabled, it always needs to re-attach when it wakes up - not sure this has been 100% confirmed though...)

Actually, I take that back. After two reboots of the A6, it has been rediscovered by the Google Home app. Everything appears to working the way it used to, including speaker groups. A single reboot might have been sufficient, but I goofed.

It's been a few months and it's time for a couple of updates that are relevant to this thread: 1) After a recent SW update, Chromecast (the one that casts both video and audio via HDMI) can now be included in an audio group with other Google Home or Chromecast devices. Until recently, this was possible only with Chromecast Audio, so that's good news. 2) If you schedule events on Google Home such as "wake me up with music at 6am on weekdays", that music gets played on the Google

Thanks for this advice, Stuart! Apparently Chromecast (the one that casts video and audio via HDMI) cannot be added to a multi-room cast group. Only Chromecast Audio has this ability at the moment (I double checked with Google support). I will therefore need to do what you suggest and buy yet another device... Looks like Chromecast Audio has a mini-TOSLINK output, while BV10 has an S/PDIF coax input (which I have never had to use before). I assume that's what you were referring to by "RCA

[quote user="Roger"] On a side note: Hooked up a Google Home Mini (approx. $50) in the same room as the BeoSound 2, told the app that Spotify is my preferred music provider and that the Mini should play any music through the BS2 (and not the tiny Mini's speaker). Now the Mini will talk back when asked "smart speaker" questions regarding calendar, weather, news etc - and I can just say "Hey Google", as I enter the room, followed by "play some Bruce Springsteen"
