• Re: Beolab 14 help with sound processor
Thanks Doonesbury. I am actually considering of getting the NuForce Avp 18. Ot ahs got some pretty good reviews. There is a dealer in my area that might be able to rpovide me with one. What do you guys think?
Here is a review from Sound & Vision: http://www.soundandvision.com/content/nuforce-avp-18-surround-processor#548RPSwHP0OP4tg7.97 Personally, I'd prefer more options, hook-up flexibility (including phono jacks with circuitry for a record player
Thanks a lot Mark! The outlaw as you mentioned has some great reviews, unfortunately, it is unavailable in India. Right now i am thinking of buying a marantz, denon or pioneer avr and use the preouts. My budget is around $1500. Can you suggest any sound processor or avr in that range? Thanks!
This is sort of a nit-picky comment on the above. It sounds like what you need is a preamplifier (no built-in amplifier), not a receiver (has built-in amplifier). I have

  • Re: BeoLab 5 against front wall?
If you read the technical paper on the new Beolab 90, you see that a wide dispersion sound field, which is what the Beolab 5s are designed around, works against precise imaging. By pulling the BL5s away from walls, around a meter, and toe the tweeters in slightly, you'll optimize them best for imaging.
Presumably, this philosophy would also apply to any speakers with the ALT then? However, the fact that the (3) smaller ALT speakers I have also have

  • BeoLab 5 against front wall?

I recall reading several posts in which it was recommended that BL 5's be located about 3 ft. (1 m) from the "front" wall. I'm interested in locating mine tight against the front wall. Assuming that the ABC is run with the speakers in this position, how does the sound suffer in this position compared to locating the speakers 1 m from the front wall? Other speakers in my system (BL 3 & BL 7-4) have switches to account for locating them at the front wall, implying they can be

Does anyone honestly think the buyer of the Beolab 90 would buy a Beosound Essence as a player for these speakers? I would not. I would want a player worthy of the price and ability of these speakers. There has to be more to this.
Agree linder Which model of player do you recommend us ?
Good question! I am assuming there are multiple inbuilt DACs in the Beolab 90s and many types of connectors
I don't see enough substance here, at least until some professional reviewers can get their hands on them or we get to hear them (and how many dealers will carry them?). The problem once again just like BL5 is that B&O seems to have thrown a bunch of drivers in a cabinet in an effort to create a wider "sweet spot" within an entire room to enjoy the music without losing details. Ok, that's fine. But there's no mention of any driver improvements

  • Re: Is it time B&O gave up on making audio systems?
Maybe B&O could go back to components, but for the modern age... A new stacking system sold separately. How about an amplifier with inputs, people could connect speakers or tv through an input? A separate digital media player that stacks on top of the amplifier, with some sort of interface? A separate hard drive to store music files or even media files? These could be in cabinets that match and are designed to sit on top of one another, but if not all are purchased

No idea why you are promoting this blob of plastic so enthusiastically. Endless promotion of every trivial detail of a very unattractive speaker (not to mention its truly awful looking stand) is difficult to understand. Graham
I have to agree with you Graham. In general, I admire funky design, just because traditional boxes are so boring, but this thing is fugly, and their specs are highly suspect, especially in the LF extension

  • unplugging during thunder storms?

Even though I have surge protectors with supposed warranties covering what is plugged into them, I still unplug all my AV and computer gear during thunder storms. My "reasoning" is that if electricity can move through the air (a rather bad conductor), it can surely jump any gaps in switches in a surge protector. What your thoughts about this? What do you do with your B & O and other sensitive equipment during thunder storms? D
