• Re: Beosystem 5000, 5500... wife - hard to choise

Hmmm.... Turntable - The Beogram 5000 is a better sounding deck than the 5005 or 5500 Receiver - The Beomaster 5000 is also a better sounding receiver than the 5500, plus it has the advantages of having controls on it, and not having ridiculous design howlers like the preamplifier output being an attenuated version of the loudspeaker outputs! Cassette deck - bit trickier here as the 5500 is definitely higher tech and has more useful features than the 5000. However, I still maintain that the 5000

I suspect David Lewis would not have approved...
I've just watched the video of it in operation and I can feel myself thawing towards it already - I hate myself!! Interestingly Mrs. S likes it in its 'operating' position, but thinks it looks daft in its standby mode.

  • Beogram 5005 repair in Glasgow

Hi all, I've been contacted by a chap who has inherited his late grandfather's B&O system, which all works well except the Beogram 5005. From what he says it sounds like it's the standard issue of the bulb in the arm tracking system being blown so the arm won't follow the grooves. Normally, I'd be happy to repair it for him but he's in Glasgow and I'm in Hampshire! Consequently, do any Beoworlders have any recommendations for any repair places in the Glasgow area that

  • Re: Beogram - how do they stand up now

In my experience, the high points of the Beogram ranges are the likes of the 4000/4002/8000/8002, with the latter two models in particular being capable of superb sound when loaded up with an MMC20CL or MMC1. The Thorens/Acoustical Beogram 3000 models from the 1960s are also no slouch, sonically. As to the later models, I'm afraid I've always been underwhelmed by the performance of the TX2/5005/5500 etc. type linear trackers. Their internal construction is neat but greatly economised compared

Yes, I’m still here and still on Wigwam! i was away last weekend and couldn’t make Kegworth this year but I’ve signed up for next year. I’m still debating whether to do a conventional system, take a load of high end Jap direct drive turntable along, or do a room full of Yamaha gear or a room full of B&O. I might ask on Wigwam what people would prefer to see nearer the time, but I’m guessing I know the answer from here! You are right, though, that it was a bit of
Next person threw a Beomaster 6000 I had spent a considerable amount of time repairing in the back of his pickup truck bed with no padding whatsoever. I asked if he was actually going to transport it that way, he said, “I ship this stuff by the crate-load to China. They don’t care.”
I'm afraid I'd have snatched it back, given him his money back and told him where he could go at this point! I do occasionally sell B&O

  • Re: Beosound 1- won't connect to network

I had a similar problem with my Beosound 1 recently. It stopped working and, when I reset it, it would only find my 5GHz Wi-Fi network, which I do not use and is no good, as my iPad and other items are on the 2.4GHz network! It also refused to connect to anything via Bluetooth. I was almost on the verge of giving up and taking it to my dealer, when I noticed my iPad had picked it up as an Airplay speaker (I do not usually use Airplay) and asked if i'd like to configure it - using the iPad's

Back on the Cube, I'm relieved to find I'm not going mad (well, not completely anyway...). Here is what I read: "Other interesting discoveries on this very brief trip? The acoustics department at B&O is on the move, from its current location – home of the celebrated ‘Cube’ measurement chamber – to new, purpose-built facilities in what was the Factory 4 assembly area. Already bigger, better listening facilities are taking shape, along with a new anechoic chamber
