  • BG1800 "spring problem"

Among the various projects in my "Work in Progress" cabinet I have a case with a BG1800, which did not allow the tonearm to lower after it had moved to the edge of the LP. It turned out that a little ridge of a part of the tonearm mechanism was almost broken off. See picture 1 (arrow a). It was quite a jobb to get access to the this defected part (unsolder the thin wires from the tonearm, glueing the broken piece back, etc) with no other result that the problem of lowering the tone arm

The first photo, I forgot to mention, shows the situation before the repair: after the fixing I put the l/l lever into the two holders including the placing of the appropriate spring.. Here is the second photo (I could not add the simultaniously) On top of all this the counterbalance weight does not look/work OK Aad

I'll check it out tomorrow ( by the way, although I apreciate very much your responses to my problem messages I regret a bit that there are no more forum inserts from other beo- adepts, they either are not involved in similar problems or they simply are not interested ( any more) . Aad

  • Beocord 1600 R>R

After having replaced the bad belts in subject BC, thanks to Dillen for his indispensable help, I was delighted to be able to show on the forum a revived deck, however now the machine produces the tapecontent only through one channel. Question: ( simply enough: how come?) would it be advisable to try to cure the patient by recapping as a first step or is there an easier access to the culprit?

  • Re: BC5000/492x silent

Hi Martin, I do not remember if the belts are new, I bought long time ago new ones , but I may have put them in my other BG 5000. How can I see wether the belts slip, since, when the motor is activated by the PLAY key, the belts are out of sight ( underside of mechanism) In order to test them I will first swop the belts with those of nr 2 BC, before I will come back to you for ordering new ones if necessary. ( meanwhile I spend some time on glueing a broken part of my BG 1800, for which I need some

  • Tiny wires BG1800

In een effort to repair one of the plastic parts of the tone arm and despite a carefull handling of the arm the almost inevitably happened: 2 of the tiny wires that are connected to the neighbouring pcb broke. In order to get this fixed how can I test which one belongs to which solder point? When I remove the cartridge and use my multimeter it looks like all have contact with each other ( ohm measuring). I suppose these wires are insulated. An option could be: try and error, but I save this for later

  • Re: BC5000/492x silent

Hi Martin New motor is ok, however, it does not give 100% satisfaction: FF and REWIND do what they are supposed to do, PLAY engages the mechanism, but only a few turns as if something is trying to keep it from smoothly spinning. Whatever causes this, it does not effect the R20. Display indicates that the PLAY function is active. What else than a possible incompetent belt could be the culprit? best regards Aad

  • Re: BC5000/492x silent

I found the 10 Ohm resistor and it turns out to be undamaged; however now that I opened the BC I applied an external 12V power supply to the motor and it did not spin. is this a correct testing method?. Could I replace this motor by a motor from a BC 6000 (or 8000) that I have as a donor; partnumbers 8400000 and 8400101 respectively. Regards, Aad
