  • Re: Apple TV 4k & Beovision 7-40

Getting older equipment to work is not always easy, but always satisfying :) It is a nice reminder that you don't have to join the rat race for higher resolution. I'm quite happy with 720p and if the ATV 3rd. gen wasn't losing all the useful apps I would never have upgraded. Thanks again for helping :)

Since all the shops are closed today, and ordering something from a web store takes some time, I went to my work and connected the ATV to a 4k screen, just to be sure. The ATV is working, and I could set the resolution to 720p 60Hz. When I came back home I connected the ATV directly to the BV7 and it worked! When I connected the audio extractor the screen went black, checked the HDMI cables, and I had one which didn't like the signal from the new ATV, so I changed that one, and now its working

Hi! I knew about the 720p limitations, but the "non auto-negotiable" part may explain a bit. The BV7 is "set" to 720p via Connections --> DVI-I so that should be good. I can use a computer monitor at work to set the ATV in the right resolution. Nice to try something that doesn't involve buying a new mass produced electronics gadget :) Thanks! -Fabian-

One down, more to go :) Just tried a new audio extractor without success. Bought one from an all electric store. Neither video og sound on the ATV 5th. gen, and interesting enough only sound with the ATV 3rd gen. Tried all the cables involved directly from 3rd. gen. into Beovision, with crisp and clear video. As soon as I put the audio extractor in between the video disappeared. Maybe I should opt for the one the B&O shop recommended. I find it strange though that there is such a big difference

I will drop the optical part and opt for an analog output on the extractor. I will prepare myself for some trial and error in finding the right audio extractor. When I'm succesfull I will put up a link for future references

That for helping! If I understand you correctly I can drop the optical audio part of the setup, and go for a cheaper HDMI extractor? The one you linked to is currently not available, and an other small problem with Amazon is that not all of the vendors ship to Norway... There are some webshops in Norway which sell HDMI extractors, are there some pointers to see which one works with the ATV 4K?

The type number of my BV7 is: 9361. A Mark2 if I understand correctly? The ATV3 was connected via a hdmi --> DVI-I input and the audio came from the optical port, via a converter to the two jack connectors associated with the AV4 port. In the connections menu the modus for AV4 is set to DVI-I.

As far as I know (https://www.howtogeek.com/721716/how-to-change-the-display-resolution-on-apple-tv/) the ATV 5th gen. supports 720p 50hz, which is the resolution the 3rd gen ATV produced and showed without problems. But getting to that resolution with "menu - down" didn't work at all. When I tried that with the 3rd gen. the white light started blinking, and new resolutions were shown. With the 5th gen. there is no reaction what so ever. The local B&O shop referred me to another
