• Time to get things set up!

After getting my 6000 quad set a couple of weeks ago it's sat in a spare room whilst I try to work out what to do with it. I did take an enormous risk and opened up the Beomaster and restrung the dial as someone had got in there first and the tuning was back to front as well as not going to the ends of the scale. This was actually the easiest restring I've done which surprised me. Then I put it back together and it's just sat there. The problem now is how sneakily attach 4 P50's to

  • Cleaned Pentas

I'd noticed that my Penta's were looking very grubby after being moved around a few times and getting splashed with some errant drinks the other night so I decided to give them a clean. I've always found them a bit of a pig to clean but decided to use that "magic eraser" stuff. I made sure I stuck strictly to an up and down motion and was hugely impressed. It's made no difference to the metals finish but has got rid of all the dirt and marks. I was nervous at first incase

Be careful with those woofers, they are one of the most difficult drivers to refoam. They're tricky to centre without shimming. As for the 6000, change repair guy!

I've had this before, normally if the TVs got cold. It slowly goes if you have it on and the tv warms up.

  • Your latest addi(c)tion?

Haha! I can't tell you that! Actually I used to work in an off licence (wine shop) in a very rich area and just talked to the customers. There were a couple of dealerships near by and people always knew I would give any old B&o a good home. I did have to pay for this but I'm sure I could get a tidy profit Anyway here it is with its partner.
did you get the matching Beogram and Beocord?
No Beocord but it did come with the Beogram and 4 P50's, all white and all drivers working. I must admit it is beautiful. The tuning dial is a bit sticky and doesn't like it if you go to the ends on the dial but apart from that its so far so good. Ive ordered a battery for the commander as its currently dead but I was told it works and have no reason to doubt it. I'm not sure if I dare open the Beomaster

  • Re: beolab 4500

The simple way to tell is the displays. Orange displays = Bl3000 Green displays = Bl4500 I did see a pair on eBay that were listed as 4500's but we're obviously 3000's because of the Orange display. Unless the display colour bothers you if the condition is good I would be just as happy with the earlier ones. Condition is everything with these. I would point out the age difference to the seller and see if they offer you anything to sweeten the deal

I've just picked this up from the chap who bought it new. I'm not sure what to do with it and am quite scared to use it. Why, you ask. Well at the moment it actually seems to work! It feels like the insides contain nothing but lead it's so heavy and having never held a 6000 commander before I can now see why it's referred to as a "brick".
