• Re: 'Illegal' on beocenter 2300

The Beocenter's display will say "illegal" if you try to access a preset that doesn't exist (e.g. pressing "1", assuming nothing is stored there). Perhaps you're trying to store a preset incorrectly. Using the Beocenter's buttons: 1) Tune in the station you want to store 2) Press "Store" 3) Press the number you want to store it as - e.g. "1", assuming you have nothing stored there 4) Press "Store" again. The display should say "Accepted"

  • Re: Splashy treble and a little rumble - Beogram 5005, re-tipped MMC4

Agreed on 1.4-1.5g. Best to err on the heavy side. Buy a cartridge test record - e.g. Shure's Audio Obstacle course - available on eBay. Sibilance is just one of the criteria that your cartridge will be tested on. You might not like what you hear...

  • Re: Beomaster failure rate

Reminds me of the McIntosh clinics of years ago. They'd set up shop for a day at your local McIntosh retailer with their test equipment and you could bring in your McIntosh (or other) component and they'd bench test it right in front of you to see how well it met key published specifications. Great PR stunt, as the McIntosh components usually outperformed the published specs.

  • Re: Beolab 6000 on ebay

Remove the grills (they slide up) and inspect the drivers. Surround deterioration around the bass drivers is quite common in older speakers. 'Assume by 'plugs' you mean powerlink cables. 'Makes no difference if they're black or white.
Do we have an Honeywell office over there? Yes we have, just 1200 miles away from Houston
Find an excuse to visit Honeywell's World Headquarters in Morristown, New Jersey. Just 30 miles from New York City. Not much to do or see here tho

  • Re: My private little B&O museum -coming up...
Hi, I think the most beautiful CD rack that I have ever seen was a few years back and it was in a B&O Catalogue. It wasn't a product made by B&O, it was a rack in an article on a persons home. It was shaped like the Empire State Building in New York. You had to look closely to ensure it was a CD rack and it was lit up. Just beautiful.
'Sparked my curiosity since I can see the original creation from my bedroom window. This is probably it.

  • Re: beosound 9000 mk2 reading cds

Try an easy fix - a laser lens cleaning CD. If that doesn't fix it it's possible you'll need to upgrade the CD mechanism, an expensive proposition. That's why the mk3's are more in demand than the earlier series - they have an improved CD mechanism (as well as other enhancements). If you hear any scraping or rubbing when trying to play CD's, make sure the position screws are set correctly.

  • Re: 2 CD's I'm missing!
Having sid that, I certainly have not even seen those ones!
The first one that Leslie shows was part of a Beosound 9000 6-CD box set for dealer presentation purposes. Very difficult to find the box set, much less that CD by itself.

  • Re: Sandy US east coast

Hey Leslie, Electricity was restored to my section of downtown Manhattan earlier today after almost 5 days. People in the blackout areas of the outer boroughs (Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, Staten Island) will have have a much longer wait - up to 10 days. But it's a small sacrifice considering all of those who lost their homes - or their lives (42 perished in NYC at last count). Sandy is the worst storm to hit New York City in modern history but we'll get through it, as we always do. -Bob

  • Re: Beogram 5500 won't turn on

You could try Atlantic Systems in Hanover, MA (Paul is the Mgr) - they're cheaper than the NYC repair shops even when cost of shipping is taken into account. But I think this might be one of those cases where it's more cost efficient to buy a working one off of eBay or Craigslist and selling yours as a parts/repair unit. Unless of course someone replies to your post with an easy do-it-yourself fix.
