  • Re: Beosound 9000

It might be as simple as cleaning the finger protection sensors - look for two small, clear things that stick out from opposite ends of the metal surface near the open side of the glass door. Wipe gently with a clean, soft cloth, and that could be it. Stan

  • Re: Beovision 9 – Big Bang & Olufsen Quality / Service Issue

If you like your current system, fix it. My experience with recent home purchases is that nothing new lasts. All of my newer appliances/electronics (not low end stuff: miele, lg, kitchenaid, Panasonic) have been visited by the service man - with the exception of my beo (touch wood). Granted, I'd expect more from a bv9 - I hope that my bv8 lasts longer than 4 years (one of main reasons I bought it was my prior flat screen lasted just 18 mos) but nothing lasts forever (+7 yrs) anymore. I think

  • Re: Which subwoofer to pair with BL8000's?

I don't quite understand the dislike many on the forum seem to have for the the bl2 + music. I have a music only system and have long felt the bl2 was one of my best additions. It transformed my bl8000s (mk1) from great classical/jazz speakers to (mostly) great all around speakers. I don't understand the boomy and slow comments, except if everybody listens to massive attack (a forum member once pointed me to a song by massive attack that sounded boomy and slow on the bl2, and, in fact, it

  • Re: Beolab 1, 6000 or 4000?

I can't speak about a surround sound setup, but (IMO) the BeoLab1s are great speakers and definitely worth the extra 1000. I upgraded my BL8000 MK1 + BL2 last summary to 2nd hand BL1 and I am very happy. With 1s, I can hear individual instruments whereas now the 8000s sound like the music is all mixed together. Also, the 1s can go louder before they "scream"... not that I listen at high volumes that much, but it is nice when necessary . The only caution is that I've heard they may

  • Re: Beolab 1, 6000 or 4000?

My lab1s were built in 2000 so they are 12 yrs old. At this point, to my untrained eye, the speaker membranes look brand new. I don't see any foam surrounds, and as they were b&o's "flagship" model for many years, I doubt they have weak rubber surrounds like the 6000s. My set were also shipped cross country (from CA to IL) in less than ideal packaging, and dropped from the back of the shipper's truck on to my driveway (I saw the truck pull up, I walked out to meet him and

  • Re: Would you buy a Beosound 5 today?

[quote user="beojeff"] That's exactly what my dealer told me. He made it very clear that the Encore is strictly intended to be a stand-alone product and that there is absolutely no future plan for it to be part of a link room system. He said that that is what the BeoMaster 5 is for. I'm wondering what other buyers' experiences have been with their dealers and if their dealers have been as clear and straightforward as ours. There seem to be an awful lot of people with expectations

First, never confuse marketing with reality. Marketing's goal is to paint a pretty picture that speaks to your emotions and gets you interested to the point you'll engage in a conversation with a store. It's the store's job then to bring the client back to earth. For example, B&O must be working on wireless speakers and TVs - including wireless power - because rarely do any of their photos show wires. Speakers in the middle of the floor (or TVs hanging from the ceiling!!!) with

  • Re: Would you buy a Beosound 5 today?

Hmm... I didn't realize I was talking someone out of buying a BS5 or BS5E rather than just warning about putting too much credence into "futures". Then again, if you believe these products are incomplete and you would not enjoy either in their current state, then that is probably the correct choice... Please reference my earlier post about how much I enjoy my BS5, but everybody has different wants/needs. Also, I guess I'm a bit hypocritical since I bought my BS5 partially on the

  • Re: BeoMaster5/BeoSound5 music server issue

Hopefully your music doesn't have Apple DRM (digital rights management)... this might cause the problem as the BM5 is unable to play iTunes files with the DRM. I believe iTunes music files are now open, but older purchases typically have the DRM. Stan

  • Re: Beo5 Xfinity

These codes work with my DVR. AFAIK, the STOP command works. It also includes the "skip forward" command that isn't exposed on the standard Xfinity remote. It skips forward 30 seconds - very useful to skip past commercials which is probably why they don't have it on the remote. Note that this site doesn't allow one to upload an .xml file so I added a .txt to the file name. You will need to remove this when you add this file to your configuration utility. Stan
