  • Re: Beolab 90

[quote user="Playdrv4me"] I don't see enough substance here, at least until some professional reviewers can get their hands on them or we get to hear them (and how many dealers will carry them?). The problem once again just like BL5 is that B&O seems to have thrown a bunch of drivers in a cabinet in an effort to create a wider "sweet spot" within an entire room to enjoy the music without losing details. Ok, that's fine. But there's no mention of any driver improvements

I wouldn't run down a rabbit hole filled with excruciating minutæ (such as jitter or the like) before making absolutely sure that your devices aren't using a different transcoding CODEC Sampling rate bit depth something else as a result

  • Re: Putting my audiophile hat back on...

Many thanks for the kind responses. Whilst I don't know exactly why it sounds better hardwired, I'm quite sure that I'm not deceiving myself either, so it will be staying hardwired, and mainly for the sonic benefits. Of course, this has also set off a bit of an upgrade bug, and I intend updating my 4+ year old Billion router, as it is getting a bit old - no longer supported with firmware updates, and has an annoying tendency to drop the ADSL line at odd times and then reboots itself

  • Putting my audiophile hat back on...

Of the many lessons I learnt in my 'audiophile' years, the main one was to trust science, logic, and reason, and to distance myself from audiophile pseudo science and made up rationalisations for 'differences in the sound' of a HiFi. I can flatly state that nearly three years into my B&O ownership experience (V1-40 + BL9's) I have never been more satisfied or content with my system - my audiophile angst seems to have been banished for good... :-) As such, I am reluctant to

  • Re: Blue Ray player for BV10 - suggestions?

Having bought an B&O TV primarily for it's outstanding picture quality and sound, I'd say the likes of an Oppo 103D or the Cambridge Azur 752 would be my Blue ray player of choice, to provide the best commensurate picture and sound quality. However, I do watch and collect a lot of movies, and despite the convenience of online streaming, blueray is still where it's at if you want the very best picture and sound quality available. Having said that, there is little doubt that new players

  • Re: Avant software update

My V1-40 updated last night automatically - I don't get any notes about HDMI 2.0 etc, just the spiel abut performance improvements and minor bug fixes etc. Still, nice to know that even though it's chassis is obviously less fully featured than the more expensive models higher up the range, that it can still be kept up to date. Kudos.. Cheers John... :-)

  • Re: V1 discontinued? No Replacement?

It's very disappointing to hear that the V1 is going to be discontinued, AND with no replacement mooted within the 'Play' Portfolio. I agree with all of Lee's remarks about the stunning PQ and sound of the V1 - my V1-40 will be three years old in July/August, and has given me hours and hours of pleasure. Unlike other TV's I've owned, the aesthetics have not only grown on me, but endured in interest re an object in the room, which is not something I can say about many consumer

  • Re: Best woofer in the house ?

I'd just mention that Dolby specs call for speakers capable of 20hz - 20khz @ 105db SPL all round, or as an option, a crossover at 80hz to a sub which will play circa 20hz, @115db - this of course with reference to Dolby 'reference' playback levels. Few people will play back movies in a domestic environment at those sort of SPL levels. However, LFE effects do commonly go to 20hz and even lower for things like dinosaur footsteps, so it's fair to argue that the BL11 is really a bass

  • Re: B&O actively searching a buyer...

[quote user="Paul W"] I think it's all perception isn't it. A lot of 'new money' are motivated by material products and indeed greed whereas that doesn't interest people who enjoy nature and the great outdoors more. Everyone here have real valid points and everyone has great ideas. Certainly when I was 18 I had more money to spend on hifi than say now in my 30s because I have houses, car and holidays along with maybe 15 more hobbies than I had when I was 18. Butch made
