  • Re: Beogram 5000 Tonearm doing its own thing

The lift plate has two nubs that ride in two plastic saddles that are very fragile. When one of the saddles breaks off the lift plate drops and rests on that spring. I don’t know a good fix, searching for it right now.

  • Re: 5005, 5500 series linear tracking tonearm locking mid-track

Thanks for the response! I did get replacement belts from Martin to replace that one. That round belt had plenty of traction though. A problem I have with another one of these is that the clutch itself doesn't have enough friction to drive the arm regardless of the belt. I cleaned and re-lubed the mechanism but the clutch still slips. Anyone have any experience adjusting the clutch ?

  • 5005, 5500 series linear tracking tonearm locking mid-track

Apparently a somewhat common problem afflicting the later linear-tracking models is that the tonearm assembly sticks mid-travel and can either cause slow retraction or lock the mechanism all together. Big thanks to Martin who helped call out the root of the issue. Just wanted to capture this on a thread for the good of the community so others can weigh in. Problem: Arm 1609 (pictured below with yellow arrow) lifts and fouls underneath the large tonearm locating cam. That arm fits very loosely in

  • Re: Cleaning a Beogram 5500 Record Platter

I had a platter like that and tried a bunch of cleaners on it. Believe it or not, brasso turned out to be the best at restoring it. It did not take off the black material and cleaned the oxidation off. I wouldn't do it to a player in good shape since it's pretty harsh but if yours already looks bad I'd go for it!

Thank you! Yes I would like to buy the belts from you- please let me know next steps. Would like two sets. Where can I read about the arm issue so I can fix? Really appreciate the help

Mine did the same. You can remove the circlip and get the arm pulley moving again if you lift it slightly. I'm guessing that the worm drive belt is slipping. Anyone know what size belt it takes?
