• Re: THE BEOWORLD APRIL 2012 PRIZE DRAW

Just a quick question on the prize draws...how long does it usually take for the site folks to wander to a post office and send the prizes out? I won the Beocom in the March drawing, and replied to the email verifying my address, but haven't seen or heard anything else. Just wondering if I missed it? Happy to pay the shipping as soon as I know what it is. Anyone know the usual drill? Thanks!

  • Re: BeoVox 2600 Refurbishment

One of the reasons film caps often sound "different" than electrolytics when you are doing a crossover upgrade like this is that film caps tend to have less insertion loss than lytics. No cap is a perfect capacitor, they all have series resistance and even small amounts of inductance depending on the construction and material used. Film caps usually have less series resistance, and less insertion loss. What this can mean depends on the crossover involved and how sensitive the speaker is

  • Re: Beolab 8000s issues?

Well, I can only report my experience. I've had mine since 1997 when I got them new, and as yet haven't had any woofer or tweeter issues in the past 15 years (gadzooks, has it been that long?). Of course I've not tried to listen to hard rock at head banging levels either, I'm aware of the limitations of what ar basically small speakers. I am unsure of the s/n's of mine, I need to crawl down and look when my back feels better just out of curiosity. I absolutely love the speakers
Pffff, I don't know Jeff, specially the 110/230Vac thing makes it difficult now! The AV7000 can be internally converted to 230V. What about postage?
Yeah, sadly the voltage differences are a bummer when it comes to between continent swaps. I'll weigh it this weekend and get an idea of what it'd take to ship to Netherlands and what the best method would be. If you are still interested in swapping something I guess that limits us to speakers and

Definitely would be interested in a swap, whatchagot?
About 800 items
Wow, I'm in awe! It'd need to be something that works in the US (the AV7000 is US spec BTW). I am generally interested in speakers, CD players, and receivers/beomasters. Think of what you have that you think is worth swapping for the AV.

Interesting, I'll be interested in what you ask for it when you sell it. I might be interested, sounds like the perfect already sacrificed donor unit. I wouldn't need the cabinet, just the bottom where the driver attaches with the ports and such.
make me an offer.
Well, it's worth about 20-30 bucks to me, US. Probably low but that's what I'd spend on such a thing. As for cloning, I've found the
Hi, hey do turn up on ebay regularly. Maybe It's easier to just buy one ? I do have one that I will sell soon, the plastic case was broken when the movers dropped it. Everything inside still works well..... just needs to have a new case made.
Interesting, I'll be interested in what you ask for it when you sell it. Interesting, looks like a 2nd order lowpass and a first order high pass, if I am reading it right (can't recall which are the in and out connectors on the bottom. Interesting ports too, typical of the wall mount Beovoxes as well. Any idea what the values of the caps are? I also remember that Madisound driver, they also had a little 8 inch one that worked really well in a 1 cu ft cabinet. Good drivers at a decent price. I used quite a few Audio Concepts DV12 drivers back in the day too, incredible
How much would shipping cost to the Netherlands? Any interest for a swap?
Not sure, I will weigh the pieces and see about getting an estimate, may be the weekend before I can finish it up though (I have overflow storage at my parents larger house which is where this all is now). Definitely would be interested in a swap, whatchagot?

I've never seen one open either, and have seen darned few in the flesh. I'm pretty sure equivalent crossover parts can be found easily if I only knew what they were. Lots of sources for stock coils and also places that will custom wind them for not too much money more than stock. Usually take a stock and pull off enough windings to trim them. I still think the most important thing is to match efficiency with the original, but I think that can be done. It'd be a fun project I think. Of
