• Re: Swiss Beomaster 8000

    Welcome back Adam!
As to the Hi-Fi World Beomaster 8000 article - patience, patience...
Holding my breath then! Hi-Fi World has been the one and only mag to support vintage B&O equipment so far. Let's hope you will keep doing so! The Olde Worlde section has been my clear favourite since 1991...

  • Re: Beomaster 4400 bad noise

Yes I finally had to do it when I restored my Beocenter 3500. But it was indeed quite a pig of a job to do. Having studied electromechanics I can do it, but I wouldn't recommend it to the inexperienced ones. I have also done some locksmith jobs, where some parts are tiny!

I too would bet on switches! Quite a lot of work ahead... Please don't use those awful contact sprays! It will possibly seem to work but in fact the silver contacts will have blackened and NO snake oil product can return them to their neat and shiny original condition. Are you sure you fully engaged the phones plug, ie not listening in mono?
Please Beoworld members, let me have this one! It could well be the final solution to fix my lovely Beomaster 8000!
Someone here (pretty sure of that, knowing what I know) is not my friend... Oh well, the item was defective. Still need that anyway! Ahem...

  • Re: Just bought a Beocenter 4000!

Thank you! Your answers are much appreciated! Your comments are very encouraging. So it is worth the time I will spend on it then. Olly, my ongoing work will perhaps give you the courage to do yours as well About the cassette deck, repairing my Beocord 5000 tells me that a worn belt caused that disaster of yours... I know this transport inside out!

  • Just bought a Beocenter 4000!

Hi everyone! I have found a nice 1979 boxed Beocenter 4000. It doesn't power up at all. When I have the time, I'll open it and post a few pictures because I haven't been able to find any pieces of information here or in the archived forum. Anything I should know about this Beocenter? Was it a good quality one, or just so-so? It looks easy enough to dismantle with all its separate modules. Thanks so much Peter for the service manual! I think I might be able to fix the cassette mechanism

  • Re: Beogram 8000 issues

Indeed. My two examples had bad solder joints which caused erratic behaviour. This is really the plague of these decks. No such problems in older B&O equipment. I didn't have any bad solders on my Beolab 5000 amplifier or Beogram 4000 turntable for instance. But loads of them inside both Beomaster 8000 and 6000!

  • Re: What Are You Working On Now

Hi everyone, I have the opportunity to buy (locally) a boxed 1979 Beocenter 4000 which doesn't power up. It does look lovely though. It shouldn't be too difficult to fix I guess. The usual voltage selector or fuse or the odd power transistor failure causing the mains fuse to blow. Is this model worth having at all?

  • Shill bidding

Hello everyone, Often I see strange bids on eBay, when it seems that they go with a strange timing from bidders with no feedback. Those types can always "guess" my max bid too. I suspect they might well bid on their own items. Am I being paranoid?
Hi Jacques do you know how the 8000 was received at wigwam? Also is there really any news of an upcoming artical? I thought the editor wanted to get his hands on a unit first!
No, I don't. I've read that the demo was successful though! See the Wigwam forum. David Price isn't editor any more by the way. Noel Keywood is now again. Adam Smith has a full system - the one he demonstrated at the show. The new issue hasn't made it to my maibox yet
