• Re: BeoPlay A8 MK II Software Update in 2021

Well, Airplay is solid for me, as long as I bring the A8 close enough to my wireless router. I don’t think AP per se is a problem: rather, the A8 doesn’t ‘hear’ the network very well. Other devices (e.g. phones, tablets) have no problem. FYI.

  • Re: BeoPlay A8 MK II Software Update in 2021

I have a Beoplay A8 MK II, and just today had a wireless network meltdown, so as a matter of course I checked the status of the A8. The 'latest' software is version 2222, from 2013. There is no newer software to install, so you're good to go. If you're having trouble connecting to your wireless network, remember that the A8 doesn't know what 5GHz is. You'll need to connect to your 2.4GHz band.

  • Roon
I wouldn’t want to use a roon ready device to connect beolab/beosound as i’m “allergic” to more cables... If i read this threat right, i could use the roon app though to stream to b&o via airplay-2 (multi-room) or via dlna (which i can then distribute to other speakers via b&o app or the halo).
Careful - I don’t believe that Roon supports Airplay 2, just original AP. I’m not a Roon user, so someone else on this thread should confirm. Open question

Odd that I seem to be the only Apple Music subscriber here. I routinely stream from Apple Music to a) Beoplay A8; b) AEx gen 2 connected to B&O gear downstream; c) ATV 4K connected to B&O gear downstream. iOS and Mac and Airplay 2. What I may sacrifice in ultra-hi-rez I gain in convenience. It just works. (And like Willy it’s been some time since I’ve heard 17khz 😧. I don’t miss what I can’t hear.) That said, I’d love to have modern, end-to-end B&O system that was equally convenient
Why should B&O acquire Roon? To turn good software into bad?
The World’s Oldest Joke™️: Marilyn Monroe is introduced to Albert Einstein. • Re: FROM B&O TO Sonos

Ivan, Steve@Sounds Heavenly has the cable you want. He’s a sponsor of this site, and many us use his services for our cable needs. And let’s face it: if you use B&O gear, you’ll have a lot of cable needs. https://soundsheavenly.com

  • Re: Beocentre 9500 or 9300

Steve, I'll add my thoughts to solderon29's excellent post. I have a BC9500, and not a BC9300, so I don't have direct knowledge. The general opinion here on Beoworld is that the 9500 contains superior parts (e.g. the cd mechanism) and may yield superior audio...but I'll bet that not 1 in a 100 could tell in a blind test. Something else to keep in mind, all other things being equal (e.g. price), is that the 9300 is a newer and may be less likely to need repair. But you need to do due
He said if he doesn’t have his laptop, yes that is the app he uses! Otherwise he uses something called REW. Hope that helps?
It does indeed, Michael. Thank you both. FYI for others: REW is Room EQ Wizard

Good episode, guys. Interesting topic, good discussion, moved right along. Thanks. Henrik mentioned an iOS app used to measure spl and frequency response in a room. I think he said "AudioTools" - is this the app ?

  • Re: Beocenter 9000 alternative cd holder
Beocenter 9500 has its own clamp. It swings in and clamps down, when the CD door is closed. There wouldn't be any room for an extra clamp.
Thank you, Martin. Based on your post, I've looked closely at/under the CD door and can now see the clamp. If I open up the unit, are there any adjustments that I can/should make to the clamp?
