  • Beolab 5s and the NAD M50.2

I’ve been playing around with a new piece of AV equipment for the past few months and wanted to pass on my opinions to you guys. The NAD M50.2 is a DAC-less streamer that streams from a variety of hi-res sources such as Tidal Hi res, Quobuz, Deezer, etc. but also locally stored files. I’ve been ripping every CD in my collection as FLACs, and storing them on the M50.2. Oh, it also does the first unfold of MQAs to 24/96. bottom line, great streamer. I usually use it hooked up to my DAC

  • Re: Monitoring Volume for Beolab 4000 to Preamp to Turntable

It sounds like the preamp is kicking out too much voltage, so that even at the lowest dB setting, you’re still getting too much gain. one thing to look at is whether the preamp has *input* volume control. For instance, on my old McIntosh preamp, I was able to level out volume between inputs by increasing or decreasing volume to make everything even. If so, try to reduce the gain from the input. This may buy you enough drop in volume so that you can get better overall volume control.

  • Re: I Need help Please with my Beolap 5 Speaker

Try one thing first: call the closest B&O service center. They may not be close by, but they might be able to refer a 3rd party repair center that is an authorized or at least certified store that can order and repair your speakers. That’s how I found a B&O repair shop within 15km of me, even though it wasn’t on their website.

  • Re: BL5 that has been off power for a long time (Years)

The red led just means it has power but is off. If you want to turn them on, you actually need to send them the command to turn on. For my Beolab 5’s, that means hitting radio (option 4) Once on, they will stay on until they are turned off. I forget what option 1 means...if you are using a non-B&O preamp, then keep in mind that the speakers will need to be “set” at a certain volume, which you should store (using the store sound command) and then you can use your preamp to set

  • Re: Beolab 5 Best CD Source

I’ve been playing with a non-B&O CD player. If you want to be able to stream audio to the BL5s, decode MQAs, FLACs and use a coax connection, the NAD M50.2 is a really nice piece of kit. I managed to get one for just under $2500.

Can you remember the model name? I thought DT had active speakers but I couldn't find any mention of them on the internet.

All of the BL7s require a powered connection. Normally, the B&O receiver - either built into the TV or as a standalone like a Beosystem - will trigger the speaker to turn it on and off. If you go with a non B&O setup, the speaker may turn off if the receiver is silent or if no signal goes to the center channel. So, sounds heavenly made a powered cable that triggers the speaker - I assume on and off, but I'm not super clear on that. Other trigger cables available use the 12V trigger on

  • Non B&O Replacements For Beolab center speaker

This may be sacreligious, but since I went to a non B&O receiver/preamp, I've been trying to figure out how to best utilize what I'm keeping (BL5s, 9s and BS9000) while updating hardware that needs too much "support" (BL7-2). The world of active speakers isn't super large, especially if you want speakers that are distinctive, like B&O gear. And yes, the 12V trigger cable/powerlink cable doesn't really cost that much, but maybe the headache of getting it, and running

  • Re: Beolab 5's (in option 4) and Logitech Harmony (ultimate/hub)

Well, I suppose I'll contact their tech support team again. If your hub can turn your BL5s on and off, then I'm a little annoyed. And the remote definitely turns the BL5s on. one question, what mode do you have your BL5s in?
