  • Re: Beolab 5 DACs and setup upgrading question

The M50.2 has no DAC. It’s just a streamer.

Yes, I’m now using the core’s DAC rather than the BL5’s. That being said, you ha e inspired me to look at a custom wiring solution to go straight digital end to end. I may try it.

I was using the "big brother" to the Node 2, which is the NAD M50.2. Digital output, etc,, but has a 2TB NAS in RAID configuration and a CD player (with CD ripping capability). It uses the Bluesound app for control, and includes DSD conversion as well. I was very happy with it (and with the digital coax out, no need for a optical-coax converter like with the Core for digital output). In the end, though, I ended up routing everything through a beosound core (and using just normal Powerlink

I guess I should have clarified: I didn't want to open up the walls to run a second set of wires for digital coax from my AV cabinet to BL5R, then a second cable to run from BL5R to L. As it is, I have Cat7 cables behind the walls for PL connections from the av cabinet to the BL5R then another cat7 behind the walls running from BL5R to BL5L. I've got optical from my TV going to my NAD M50.2, then optical out from there going to my core (so music streaming and TV go direct to the core). Powerlink

Ok. After about 2 weeks of listening...I am returning to mu original thought. The “soft crackling noise” is imperceptible at any volume worth listening at. I’m going ahead and saying the beosound core and beolab 5s are totally working ok with each other. I don’t know why B&O doesn’t think these work together, but they definitely seem to be working just fine to me. Use with confidence!

I’m currently just using powerlink (I have mk3s for my BL5s). Steve - I will try what you have recommended, but isn’t the core already set at fixed output and changing the volume through the BL5s when hooked up via powerlink? Also, according to an email I got back from B&O: ” Hello again, I was lucky - someone with knowledge about this still had not left for holiday. The reason is hardware - the Power Link in the BeoSound Core does not support the BeoLab 5 which is why a digital

Really sorry, but it looks like I had been blinded by hope. At low volume, there is still a discernible hissing, as the OP noted, which sounds like a record. Its not noticeable when louder, but it looks like my previous post was wrong. That being said, I’m keeping it as is...while the hissing is annoying, it’s something I can live with for the convenience of the current setup. That being said, if I see an essence pop up cheap online, I’ll probably get it to try it out.

So, a quick update: BL5s and BS Core are working fine by powerlink. I notice no audio issues at all. I’m using a standard RJ45 to 8 pin converter and my old mk3 cables. I’ve also linked my NAD M50.2 via optical to the core for streaming with Tidal. The combination is perfect...I get the first MQA unfold through the M50.2 and the core automatically detects the connection, so speakers jump on and off with no clicks. Very happy.

So Powerlink Core->BL5 is still bad? That's shocking.

  • Re: BeoSound Core working with Chromecast Audio device

If he wants to be able to supply all 4 speakers with the same audio (whole house solution) isn’t there something like this he could do: core -> speaker set 1 network link -> ML/NL converter -> ML system (like a Beolink Converter? Or a cheap beosound 4?) -> speaker set 2 wouldn’t both speaker sets then be connected and drivable by the same audio?
