• Re: Beomaster 5 Hd upgrade to Samsung EVO SSD

I don't own a Beomaster 5 but I do know a few things about storage devices so maybe I can help. If you are cloning the drive sector-by-sector there is no need to format it in advance, this is because the filesystem (which is what formatting creates) will be copied over too. There issues with cloning the drive this way, for example if the original drive was 500GB and the new one is 1TB, you may still be limited to 500TB usable space (because the original filesystem was only 500GB in size). It

  • Re: Streaming via BeoMusic app

No transcoding/downsampling happens. The Beoplay will gets the files direct from the iPhone in whatever format they're in. I can't say for certain, but I don't think the play count gets updated (because they aren't played on the iPhone).

  • Re: The Beosound Moment Beta 2.x thread

+1 for Apple Music. I use iTunes to manage my library which gets synced automatically to the cloud. If the Moment supported Apple Music I wouldn't need to have Twonky running on my Mac, or even have it switched on. Bonus points for being able to have Apple Music replace Deezer too.

  • Re: Moment CD player

I can't help but ask the following questions: - Why did they mount the display at a 90 degree angle? - Why didn't they put the buttons on the back next to the display? - Why didn't the put the CD slot on the right hand side instead? These aesthetic annoyances aside, I will probably buy one anyway.

  • Re: Network Link router and ISP router?

Advising customers to have 2 routers is complete madness and a recipe for trouble. I have a hard time figuring out why B&O don't just say what the real problem is: consumer grade routers are garbage. The sort of router you get from your ISP or from PC world is made down to a price. The hardware is crap, the software is crap. So many corners have been cut that it doesn't really comply with standards, etc. You need to get yourself something enterprise grade. Something that will run 24/7

  • Re: AirPlay 2

New standards are engineered into old hardware all the time with software and firmware updates. And when a hardware update is required, some vendors have a solution for that too. But until Apple post the spec for Airplay 2 on their developer side we can only guess what's required.

  • Re: AirPlay 2

I hate to say it, but it probably will. Homekit integration usually needs hardware support for the encryption. Rendering all of the Airplay compatible kit out there obsolete sounds like a bad business plan to me, so maybe they'll loosen those requirements instead. I have my doubts though.

  • Re: Scandinavian moderation versus Bang & Olufsen

There is a lot of choice but it's mostly the same. B&O are really the only company offering something different. Who else makes anything even remotely close to the Beovision 11 or 14? Things are getting out of hand though. I was quoted £650 for delivery and installation of new Beovision 14. I think that's a bit over the top. You could buy a TV for that.

  • Re: AirPlay 2

It would seem unlikely to me that those companies would sign up as Airplay 2 partners without having at least a look at the spec. I would not be surprised if they also had input. I have hopes that B&O were able to get whatever they needed into the spec to allow for tighter integration of Airplay and Beolink. The way things work now is clunky; If someone is using Beolink to play something on a speaker the same speaker shows up in iTunes as "available" for example. And when streaming

  • Re: BeoSound 5 Not Supported by Spotify
I wrote to B&O and suggested that they release the Beomaster 5/Beosound 5 software/firmware as open source if they can't or will fix this. Then can the Beo community continue to develop the BS5 for the future. Stefan
Isn't the BeoSound 5 based on some embedded version of Microsoft Windows? If that's the case I think there is zero chance they'll release the source.
